Reopened Land Borders: What Did Nigerians Gain From Closed Borders? by Foolishbuhari: 10:55am On Apr 24, 2022
This motive behind this controversial decision has always been evil, vindictive, senseless and reeks of poor judgment.

The day buhari unilaterally woke up one day and shut down all land borders into Nigeria. That singular action created a roller-coaster of unfortunate events, for citizens and economy both in Nigeria and outside.

Nigerians in Ghana were victimized over that, their shops and businesses locked up and still are, in a seeming gesture of reciprocacy dealt them by the Ghanaian authorities. Jobs were lost and people were thrown into more poverty, especially border communities. There were conspiracy theories, of business going on as usual at Northern Nigerian borders, whilst that of the south was vigorously enforced and patrolled.

Lives have been lost to this, both civilian and officers, Idikoro being the major epicenter of such unfortunate events, when unruly overzealous custom officers go shooting at people with claims of fighting "rice smugglers". Till date, I wonder when rice became weapons of mass destruction, to be fought with deadly force even without conscience and regards for collateral damage and adherence to the rules of engagement. Pitiable!

During this border black out, buhari and his retinue of media aides, have inundated us with how rice production has increased in Nigeria(audio of course)- even showed us a rice pyramid (I still wonder the rationale behind it), when a 50kg bag of rice costs more than the minimum wage. Conveniently anchoring on rice, totally leaving other products and services that came with functional borders.

Then yesterday, news filtered in of buhari, approving re-opening of these shut down land borders. So I wonder what changed? Was it worth it? Over a thoughtless whim, he shut down the lives of people in a whole sector, lives and properties damaged, loans acquired for business lost, sundry linked industries suffered terribly and now he just wakes up and says he's satisfied?

Perhaps I'm too critical of the man and will never see his less of the disaster he is, hence I'm bringing it out to this forum... What did the border closure do for us the Nigerian people and economy?

Please don't tell me about rice production and sufficiency, because that's a white lie. It's been proven we still import rice, and there's no way we would have attained sufficiency in rice consumption, when a bag of rice costs same as our minimum wage. Thanks

He was targeting a section of the country he hates with economic destruction, but when he found out that th3 region are surviving and still excelling, he has to shamefully pull back as his own army of jobless folks are sleeping in front of warehouses.

cool
They used it to experiment how much other regions can depend on the North for food. They also used it to possibly ensure IPOB do not import things. But IPOB is like the air that cannot be trapped.

If you were not affected by the border closure hands in the air

On a serious note shaa.
We don really suffer for this Country.
Christmas no dey be like Christmas again, how about New year and others?

By now all of us suppose don get sense.

If we still decide to vote a Drug Baron or one visionless Leader, then we should expect more years of suffering.

Our decisions will affect us negatively or positively.

Like it's so painful! Ruined the economy, ruined lives over what exactly? If Nigerians are sensible people, anything and everything APC, especially at the middle would be roundly rejected because ask them, they'd tell you buhari is the best thing after fried rice. Which means they support all his policies!

It helped northerners to take stronger hold of certain sections of national trade through cross border smuggling from the north.. Stuffs like foreign rice and cars and other essentials can easily be smuggled from Benin Republic and Niger republic into northern Nigeria for half of the costs of doing so down South..

Buhari is a disaster. In a sane Country, Buhari would have been impeached a long time ago.

The CBN Governor and Finance Minster are not also helping matter.

Person hardly hear from the finance minister while the CBN Governor wey dey always talk, dey always talk in favour of the executive just to be in the good book. The CBN Governor is ready to eat shiiit just to keep his job as the CBN Governor.

Buhari dealt a severe blow to to SW economy for 7 years ...SW economy has always been immune to Nigerian Macro economics because of its trade with the other west African states , by closing the border Buhari made sure the SW will also feel the effect of his bad govt

Nothing. Buhari and his whole team are just clueless, wicked and senseless.

And someone would ask why I won't vote Osinbanjo? He'll only tow Buhari's path and our blablabla (wailing) will continue and nothing will change.

The manner he handled the social programmes alone shows he's as clueless and desperately wicked as his master.
