An eyewitness recently recounted the unfortunate fire explosion of an illegal crude oil refining site in the Abaezi forest, in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, which resulted in the death of over 100 people, who were reportedly burnt beyond recognition. People who witnessed the inferno revealed that the incident happened around 11pm on Friday.

Speaking at the scene of the incident via the Arise News Network, the eyewitness, who went by the name; Udogu Godstime, revealed that the fire which he said originated from where they were refining the crude products, inevitably ignited the flammable gas of the illegal crude oil refining site in the Abaezi forest. The eyewitness claimed that the fire burnt about 400 to 500 people, and none escaped.

“

Sometimes little children or people that don't have work come to tie cellophane, to work for people, while there are people called buyers, they normally stay here to buy products then go to their normal location and refine them to kerosene and diesel.

“So what brought about the fire, we heard that it was a local fire that came out from where they were refining the products, the fire caught up with the gas here so everyone here got rounded up by the fire and no single soul escaped, unless the ones that were sitting aside, and 400 to 500 people here got burnt and none of them escaped”, the eyewitness

narrated.

According to more reports, the death toll of the explosion in Abaezi community, Ohaji-Egbema LGA in Imo State has increased, and the whereabouts of many remain unknown.

I went to this ohaji-egbema early this month. Government actually abandoned this people untill thil oil was discovered,heavy equipments is being transported to these areas and many military check points.

The people there are living in a poor condition,they still ride bicycles even had bicycle repair shops. The number of bicycles there is more than anything. There are too many uncompleted buildings to the extent the blocks are already black. No good road,no good school. I later realized it was this oil that brought the government attention to that area. Now there are too many military check points. No light,dirty surroundings. Thier type of Igbo language is the most funniest I have heard.

This people will leave whatever they're doing to come and see a car that is passing. Lol.

There was this junction we get to,and there were too many wasted bullets on that road,we reasoned that they may be on war with those soldiers stationed there...they come out from thier buildings to see a car that is passing by. A dude that directed us to where we was going, disappeared with my N500. That area is far behind most Igbo communities that I know of.

So where did bursting of oil product pipe lines start if not Lagos and it's environs? And the smugglers in Ogun State are from ohaji egbema. Hypocrisy is a big disease.
