2023: Ofumelu To Run Unopposed As Former Commissioner Set To Quit The Race For House Of Representative.

The re-election of Hon. Barr. Vincent Ekene Ofumelu is set to gain more traction as the performing lawmaker is likely to run unopposed in the forthcoming election for Oyi and Ayamelum Representative seat.

Following reports by our correspondent in Oyi over the weekend, source revealed that a former Commissioner in the Federal Constituency is considering dropping his ambition to run for the House of Representative seat to instead support the incumbent whom he said has done so well in his first term.

The Commissioner who our correspondent quoted, said He is not contesting the election on the grounds that the incumbent has not performed, quote me right, rather his campaign was hinged on zoning arrangement. He said since the zoning has been relegated and no long effective based on the outcome of their last stakeholders meeting, he considers himself not good enough to challenge the incumbent going be his antecedents and track records in the last two and half years.

Stakeholders, political creme la creme, youth and women based groups, CSOs and political sophisticated others have continued to prevail for the performing Ofumelu whom they nicknamed “Onye Njeozi Oyi na Ayamelum to continue beyond 2023, the latest of such endorsement was from a popular group, Oyi Progressives, who declared that there’s No vacancy in the seat of the Federal Constituency, that Ofumelu is still in charge.

The Commissioner noted that the interest of the Oyi and Ayamelum people is paramount at this time and not his individual ambition and interest. Our source said he is likely to announce his withdrawal from the race in coming days since following the overwhelming support of the people for the incumbent.

Ofumelu is now considered the sole candidate in the forthcoming 2023 election, this will be the first of its kind in the history of Oyi and Ayamelum politics.
