Governor Hope Uzodimma has said Imo State has the largest deposits of natural gas in the world.

He stated this at a sensitisation forum for stakeholders organised by the Gas Monitoring Committee of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission in Owerri, yesterday.

Uzodimma, represented by his deputy, Placid Njoku, reiterated his commitment to harnessing the huge gas resources in other to build a strong economic base for the state.

“Imo wants to partner with the Federal Government and others interested in gas, it will increase youth employment and economic growth of the state. Effective use of gas is a concern to the state government,” he said.

Chairman Gas Monitoring Committee, Patrick Mgbebu, who corroborated Uzodimma’s statistics on the state’s gas deposits in the state, said Imo has the capacity of hosting major gas investments of the country.

“Nigeria has set the ambitious goal of remaking its natural gas industry in the coming decade ,hoping to use its abundant gas resources to power its fast growing economy as well as benefitting from a growing export business .

“To succeed, it will require foreign capital, friendly policies and government – industry cooperation. It is hope that Imo State will provide the enabling environment for potential investors so that the inherent potential of gas as the catalyst for achieving economic diversification is fully achieved,” he said.

I'm yet to see how this massive gas deposits is improving the states bottom-line in terms of naira and kobo! For instance, does anyone know what Imo state received in 2021 from all the gas being siphoned from within its borders?

If you don't no that the state is already an oil and gas producing state that is why Walter Smith's refinery, Adax petroleum, Chevron, and shell BP are currently running in that state, plus the biggest gas processing plant Seplat and Shell BP in partnership with the federal government show that you are a kid.

Again Oil and Gas are exclusively Under the federal government not state and they only can decide when and how to use it.

These States are not basket cases simply because they have Oil and gas. They're where they are because of the crooked political arrangements in the country in which those living outside these states control these resources and because of the very lopsided federal government/states sharing formula for oil revenues.. The curse is not the mineral resources, the curse if from the government and from the wayward sections of the country that arrange for the mismanagement of these resources for corrupt purposes..... Heard from an Orsu indigene that some of those members of Ebubeagu are actually from the South South. Mostly ijaws. And they are working with the security agencies. I wouldn't be surprised if a totally corrupt Timpire Sylva is behind this recruitments, since he has been the main government character crying and yearning for these new gas discoveries to exploited.. The ijaws are conniving with the North to undermine the whole East. That clan is only good at pipelines protection..

You are not far from the truth, imo state needs a good monitoring team to oversee operation of this oil and gas companies. But I believe when Seplat and Shell BP paint comes on stream by the end of this year Imo state will see more VAT and revenue from that sector

I figured this is part of what's happening....together with all the gas coys that are exploiting the gas too! Very soon now, when the AKK is completed, another channel will be opened up to the north (and possibly Niger and Europe) while Imo state is left with next to nothing and in penury! Gas is now the new oyel....the new gold, and is high demand all over the world, yet Imo state that's awash with it is gaining NEXT TO NOTHING! If we were gaining from the gas as much as say Akwa Ibom is gaining from oil derivation, it would be bearable small!

Another thing any keen observer will notice is that there is NO administrative/regulatory or oil coy headquarter presence of the oil and gas industry ANYWHERE IN THE SOUTH-EAST! They rigged the entire process to exclude hydrocarbon-rich states in the south-east, while states like Lagos, Abuja, Rivers and Bayelsa are fully represented! Check it!

Was watching a interview program on AriseTV two days ago, anchored by Sumner Sambo, and there were these two clueless individuals he brought on as guests who said they were the voice of some new, amorphous organisation like that….and representing the ‘aborigines’ of Niger Delta! It’s like all they were interested in was having a go at Ndigbo….blaming Igbos’ for almost all their woes and saying we marginalised them politically and economically and implied we murdered millions of them during the uncivil war! The said Ndigbo have no territory within their catchment area that included Rivers (where i’m from), Bayelsa, Akwa-Ibom and Cross-Rivers states, and said no inch of their ‘territory’ will be ceded to anyone! They went on to blame IPOB for engaging in criminality, murder and intimidation in their ‘territory’, wondering why IPOB chose to have a presence in Port Harcourt when Umuahia, Owerri, etc, are there! They purported to speak for the Ikwerre by saying the Ikwerre ARE NOT IGBO, BUT ORIGINATED FROM EDO! And they then went on to accuse the very same people (Ikwerre) of marginalising them politically in Rivers state…saying upland had hogged the governorship since 1999!

Watching the entire charade unfolding before my eyes (of course Sumner Sambo never took them to task on some of the outlandish claims they were making), it was clear what i was watching was the voice of Jacob but the hand of Esau! There is an ongoing underground campaign against Ndigbo and their position in Eastern Nigeria by the Fulani hegemony, and their main points-man in the region to help them do this are some Ijaw! They have seen that even without Rivers state, Ndigbo still have access to the sea once Akwa/Cross is either an independent country of their own or they are not part of anti-Igbo blockade that would stretch from Rivers state all the way to Cross-River state! Shrinking Igbo territory….denying us access to our hydrocarbons…..and denying us access to the sea is what all this is about! The endgame is to either discourage IPOB from their bid for secession….or if that doesn’t work, try to ensure a newly emergent Alaigbo Republic would be frustrated economically and that as much hydrocarbons as possible still remain in what’s left of ‘one Nigeria’ for the Fulani hegemony and their southern cheerleaders to gorge on!
