Tokskob2008: Even the so called video rentals were killing the Nollywood business. That is why most of the veterans have little or nothing to show for their many years in the industry. Thanks to technology today, piracy and video rentals are no longer lucrative because most of the movie producers now have channels on YouTube and they also collect royalties from satellite broadcast channels. |

yesloaded: Exactly, it started during the days of VHS. CDs don't last like VHS because it starts Skipping after a while unlike VHS that can remain as long as possible. |

grossintel: Flash memory has replaced the Blu-ray disc. A typical Blu-ray disc can hold between 25Gb to 50Gb of data. But flash memories can hold much more than that. There are flash memories in the range of 1 Terabyte to 2 Terabytes and even more! |

Poloyanabo2: Yeah, most of these technologies we see as new have been available a long time ago but maybe due to poverty, most people couldn't afford it especially in this part of the world (Nigeria/Africa). VHS was produced in the late 70s, followed by CDs in the early 80s, and DvDs in late 90s then Blu-ray in early 2000s. Dvds became popular in Nigeria around 2004 and was seen as a new tech, but it was already in existence about a decade ago. Even VHS and CDs became popular in Nigeria a decade after they were produced. |

Netflix started as a home videos rental service. Netflix was founded on the aforementioned date by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Scotts Valley, California. Netflix initially both sold and rented DVDs by mail, but the sales were eliminated within a year to focus on the DVD rental business.[ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix |

drmuchin:When you open a link to a website, remember there is a delay from when you clicked that link till when the page starts loading. That delay is due to the time it takes for the command to get to the server and for the server to respond. In cloud gaming this is a big problem, when you click a button you need to wait for that command to get to the server and for the server to process that command and respond back. Now imagine how frustrating that can be, 5G improved the latency time but it’s still there and would never go away lol. So cloud gaming services are likely not going to be a success just yet as long as the internet works this way. |

grossintel: how about when playing PS and one removes the disc yet game is still ongoing and working perfectly? |
Re: Ọmọ! That Year. This Used To Be Our Own Netflix by Nobody: 12:12pm On Apr 30, 2022 |
drmuchin:The game doesn’t need the disk to play in contest, when you install the game it copies it’s content to the local drive of the console. You need the disk for the game to play because the console needs to verify a digital signature which confirms your ownership to the game. So you don’t just borrow the disk from a friend install it and pass it to another friend. If they don’t do it this way then the game developers won’t make money. Because of this digital signature, you can’t pirate their CD’s and sell them like in the days of PS1. |
