2023: Dapo Abiodun faces disqualification from APC over fraud allegation in USA

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun is facing a possible disqualification from contesting under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) after a petition alleging him for fraud in the United States of America surfaces.
A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Ayodele Oludiran, had petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, on behalf of Oluwatobi Sofela of Ogun Bibire Unity Forum that the state governor, Dapo Abiodun cannot be the candidate of the party in 2023.

The petition which was signed on 12 April, 2022 claimed that Dapo Abiodun’s candidacy would portend danger for the APC with the damning allegations against him.

The petitioner, Ayo Oludiran maintained that Governor Dapo Abiodun was accused of “concealing criminal offences he allegedly committed in the USA in the 1980s.”

He also claimed that there are discrepancies in Forms CF001 the governor filled in 2015 and 2019 with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to him, while contesting for governor in 2019, Dapo Abiodun claimed he attended International Primary School Ayetoro in 1971. But four years earlier, while he was running for Senate, the governor submitted another primary school, Comprehensive High School Ayetoro State Primary School, in 1971.

He maintained that both schools said to have been attended by the governor which would have been in the present Ekiti State or Ogun State – of the Old Western Region of Nigeria could not be located anywhere after thorough findings.

Recall that on Thursday, April 28, 2022 Dapo Abiodun officially declared his intention to run for a second term in office along with his deputy, Noimot Salako Oyedele.

He claimed that a certain ‘The DA Mandate Group’, led by one Apagun Biyi Adeleye, had raised funds for the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for his second term bid.

In a March 2022 report of Sahara Reporters, it was gathered that the Ogun state governor was on November 7, 1986, apprehended for fighting and injuring a police officer in an attempt to resist arrest.

While being processed at the station, his fingerprint was run through the crime database and it was discovered that the Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun being processed for detention was the same as Shawn Michael Davids, who had been on watchlist for credit card fraud, petty theft and check forgery. Abiodun was later jailed in Miami Dade Florida, USA.

However, in 2015, while contesting for the Ogun East Senatorial seat against the late Buruji Kasamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he applied for the redaction of his criminal records in Florida.

This act of concealment meant he could lie on his Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) forms that he had no prior criminal records. A perjury offence that could have disqualified him from ever holding an appointive or elective office in Nigeria. The redaction was granted in August 2015.

While this was unfolding, some quarters claimed that the governor is still active in the fraudulent act which he was accused of years back. In August 2021, a Senior Special Assistant to the governor, Abidemi Rufai was suspended after he allegedly boycotted the United States data system using 10 different emails in 14 days, defrauding Washington State Employment Security Department of over $350,000.

Abidemi who is currently in custody in the US also used a pseudonym to carry out the fraudulent act.

Criminals ruining Nigeria political space. If Abiodun is disqualified, tgen Tinubu should also be disqualified. I trust PDP is gatgering evidence to evict him when the time comes.
