Hmmm, workplace toxicity hampers productivity in the long-run and messes with employees' mental health. The health sector particularly is deeply rooted in bullying and all kinds of oppression particularly from medical elders. Funnily enough, it's not just a Nigerian thing. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

apatheticme:How's it going @Apatheticme?... True that, your first paragraph is apt and resonates with me. Second, do you work as a healthcare professional in the health sector to have known about the "deep rooted bullying" you referenced here? I am stunned by this revelation. I know about the reported bullyings and sexual harassments of some female soldiers in the U.S. and Israeli armed forces by their male superiors, but the health sector just made my eyes widen in disbelief! |

apatheticme:Aha! That's mad cool. @Apatheticme, you are a Senior Resident Medical Doctor... My instincts were right about your career path. You must be immersed in your work right now in Lagos I assume? I can't ever recall my mother (who was a Senior staff in the health sector) talk about these things back in the day before she retired. There were patients who came back to thank her when they recovered because she treated them well. So, knowing full-weIl that the health sector entails a high standard with regards to work ethics, I assume that work-related stress could be a major trigger for those bullying antics from the medical elders. I am curious to know, what made you to gravitate towards being a Doctor? Alright then, take care. I'll talk to your later. |

apatheticme:Doc apatheticme, what happened to your feedback to me that you posted right here?! I earlier skimmed through it only once and I liked some of the feedback insights and perspectives but because of a prior work-related engagement, I had to re-schedule replying you. I was just gearing up to reply you and now it's gone (i.e., your post). I'm trying hard to recall some of what I assume you wrote... so as to have a better convo/reply. Instead of deleting the post so quickly like a "speeding bullet," there are folks that would have learned from your unique insights on the subject matter of the thread. I've been a veteran member of NL since 2005 using my older NL account, so, I understand full-well the need to be circumspect here and why you didn't want to give too much out on location though. |

apatheticme:Lol... How's it going Doc? Yup, the faster than a "speeding bullet" way of post deletions has become the norm for some folks here. You remind me of one of my favourite female Nlanders here who also likes to delete her posts, and she says it's her way of carrying out "detoxification." Her reason didn't resonate with me though when she told me that... but then she has a right of choice. The elder medical personnel you talked about have to go for "Emotional Intelligence" crash-courses and trainings in order to be able to handle the needs of all medical personnel in this tech age where e-medicine is now the norm. The fact that they had their own early medical years in relatively "conservative settings" doesn't give them the right to demoralize the entire workforce. As to the many challenges you've faced on the job, my take is that you really have to start gearing up for some Diasporan employment too like the folks who have left. There are useful threads here on NL for that as well and many of your colleagues frequently visit here [the Travel threads especially]. The Tech field may be experiencing some headwinds right now with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank early this month [a major financier of about half of all Tech start-ups], and the cut in staff strength of many Tech companies such as FB, Twitter, etc, BUT the health sector space is lit right now. Do have a lovely weekend ahead and I'll stay in touch to gain some more unique perspectives from you. Ciao! P.S. Just curious, what made you to choose the @apatheticme NL user name? 2 Likes |

Klass99: Hiya! Thanks for your kind words. I rarely post because this place has been taken over by kids and disgruntled elements, and lately tribal/gender slurs are flying everywhere. No educative threads, no inspiring issues to discuss other than gender and tribal wars. I have my sanity to preserve biko. For instance this thread is almost a year! If not XAUBulls that mentioned me, I have completely forgotten about this thread!! I just come here once in a while, read headlines, few sensible comments and log out I do read your comments most times though, and some other sensible people here and I'm always glad we still have good people around! Klass99:Klass99... Interesting perspectives. You must have worked in the insurance sector. In any event, peace of mind and job satisfaction are very critical in the grand scheme of things. So, are you still in the same career niche, and how have you been able to navigate the career space since then and when do you see yourself retiring, and then flexing while sipping Pina Colada on the sandy beaches of Barbados? |

apatheticme:This is deep... Very deep! First off, yeah, "I know say you no go know wetin you dey reason when you choose the name"... Lol. That's why I nudged you on to explain how you coined the name which is quite unique. You cracked me up real hard when I saw how you wriggled out with a brilliant, amoebic response. Whoa! The feedback you gave here on the regimented medical space floored me. The NMA and the Nursing Council would only take drastic actions against these paternalistic and narcissistic med elders, if the younger medical professionals engage in mass protests. I guess the younger ones are too occupied with the pressures of daily living and the plans to leave for greener pastures in Saudi Arabia or the Western countries. I love the sense of clarity you put into writing here and your use of spoken English with no typographic errors. Reading, writing, and public speaking must be part of your intense hobbies. Take care @apatheticme... Ciao! |

XAUBulls: . Amoebic response indeed! XAUBulls: Forget NMA, they are only interested in their monthly deductions from our salaries, and MDCN only interested in your annual practice license renewal fees! XAUBulls: Yes, I read a lot!
