My question is why still leave those thieves in the force where they can still do worse.

They may decide to kill the person and pin armed robbery on him.

Hmm been here.
I live in Akure and I work for NIEPA (National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration) has a CBT programmer. Sometimes in 2019, I got transfered to the institution's office in Ondo so I had to rent a 3 bedroom apartment somewhere in town. Because the institute does not have an office space available for me yet, they allowed me to work from home most times. Everything was fine until 6 months later when SARS came to my house one early morning. They came in commando style that day, first they said they got informatoon that I was the one supplying guns to the thieves in the town. I was shocked. They searched my whole house and took me away. My wife was so shocked that she almost had a heart attack.
Long story short, they let me go after a whole day when they couldn't find anything incriminating on me, my laptop or phone.
Here is the point of all these. 3 months after the incident, the landlord's association in my area held the monthly meeting at my house (my own landlord does not live there) they used my living room. The meeting got out of hand and they started fighting each other over money. As a tenant, I was not allowed in the meeting even though they were using my living room but suddenly I heard one of them say "That's how you go and report this innocent man to Police because you say he doesn't greet you." at first, I didn't know they were talking about me, then the person that said it called me, Bros, bros, it is this thief that told police to come to your house that day! Lo and behold, it was the chairman of association of landlords that sold me out to SARS cos he felt I was too proud just because I have seen him a few times and I drove past him without greeting him.
Funny part is, I didn't even know he was the chairman until that day.
My wife was in the bedroom, she came out and scattered everywhere with shouting. I wanted to press charges but begging was too much that day and he may simply deny it.
My jaw to the ground. Can you imagine? angry angry

As shared by ALEEY GIWA Deputy PPRO Lagos State Police command

It is generally expected that friends cherish each other’s dreams and aspirations. However some friends are enemies within.

I’ve a story, but before I proceed, I would like to emphatically state that the motive for sharing these stories is to ensure that my readers learn from others experiences and not fall into the same ditch others have ignorantly fallen into in the past.

The story went viral on SM sometime ago. It was reported that; “Police officers arrested Mr.A for no good reason and extorted money from him in the sum of 300k.”

Reading about this, I sent a private massage to the blog that posted it requesting for the contact of the complainant. Good enough I got a reply.

I was sent the handle & email of the guy that made the thread. So I reached out to him. My message him was - “Sir I saw ur post, pls can u kindly tell me what happened”

And his reply was “Two days ago my friend was beaten mercilessly, because he refused to comply with them and was taken to the Police station and on getting to the said Police station they were informed that there was a petition against his friend. So I asked him who wrote the petition against his friend and what was his offense?”
His response was that the police refused to show them the petition and that they only told them that he was involved in some sort of fruad that was worth about 25k dollars”

While I was chatting with the guy who sent the post to the Blog, someone just sent me a direct message “Good morning Sir, I am Mr.A.”

I am the guy that was arrested by your men, I learnt that u were trying to get in-touch with me. Immediately I got that, I switched to Mr.A. I replied him “Oh great sir, so sorry about that ugly incident, pls what really happened?”

His response was “Sir thanks for reaching out and God bless you. To start with, it wasn’t 300k they collected from me it was 100k they collected, and sincerely there was a petition filed against me, but it was an old case which I had already settled while I was in the USA. It was about a transaction my friend asked me to help him with, which later became more like a fraud from my end in the State(USA). My account ws blocked & all.

To cut the long story short.

I replied him “Pls meet me at the station tomorrow, so we can trash things out”

Fast forward the next day.
Mr.A called me, saying “Pls sir I wouldn’t be able to make it today. But will try come the following day, which I didn’t object to. But I proceeded to meet with the Officer in Charge of the department that arrested Mr.A.

I got there and the following conversations ensued;

Me: Good monring sir (Saluted and banged my foot).

Oc: How’re doing Giwa! Deputy PPRO!

Me: fine sir, i just have one small issue that I need to draw ur attention to.

Oc: what happened Giwa?

Me: it’s about a case and it has gone viral on SM.

Oc: Okay!

Me: Oga, some of ur men arrested one guy (Mr.A). According to the report they collected the sum of 300k from him & rough-handled him mercilessly.

Oc: Giwa Pls did he tell you the name of the IPO?

Me: Yes Sir, IPO Z is the name he mentioned.

Immediately the OC called the IPO via his phone.

Oc: please come meet me in my office.

IPO came in.

IPO: Good monring sir!!

Oc: Yes! What’s good about the morning? Which case are you handling that you collected 300k from the suspect?

IPO: I am not handling any case like that Sir. (Looking all scared)

Oc: Okay!! call me all your team members now!!!

So the IPO called his team members.

The Oc asked them who’s the most senior officer among them?

The most senior officer (Inspector) answered!

Then the OC asked: which case are you doing? And which one did you collect 300k from the suspect?

Inspr: we didn’t collect 300k from any suspect. Don’t know what you are talking about Sir.

The OC just faced me and he said; Giwa please call the complaint of the case.

Me: He said he can’t make it today. But will be available tomorrow by God grace.

Oc: Okay then, when he’s around bring him straight to my office.I’ll surely deal with these men! I don’t accept all these uncivilized act here.

Later that day my phone rang! Good enough Mr.A is calling....
Me:Hello Sir

Mr.A:Hello Sir, how’re u doing? So sorry I couldn’t make it today

Me: Oh it’s no problem Bro! I really understand.

Mr.A: Sir, I am scared of coming because my friend said I shouldn’t come.

Me: why please?

Mr.A: I don’t really know why he keeps insisting i shouldn’t come. That they will change the story on me and blah blah!
Me: Pls don’t mind him. Just come & let see the officer in charge of the department. You’re fine my brother. We can’t let this go. If we keep avoiding such, trust me the system will only get worse. And having a great policing system in our country is a collective effort. After the 22mins conversation, he agreed to come around without his friend (the guy who posted the story on SM).

The next day, the guy came around with his face swollen and bruises all over him. Tbh, I felt terrible when I saw it. So I took him straight to the OC’s office.

Me: Good monring sir (saluted and banged my foot)

Oc: Giwa how are u and where is the guy?

Me: here’s the guy Sir!

Mr.A: Good morning Sir.

Oc: How’re u doing my brother! What happened to ur face? That was the 1st question the OC asked.

Mr.A: I was beaten.

Oc: by who?? (Angrily)
Mr.A: by the police officers that arrested me 2 days ago

Oc: who & wats the name of the officer?

Mr.A: IPO Z!

Oc: ah! But Giwa u were here yesterday when he denied to have such case.

Me: Yes Sir!

Oc: These men are terrible set of people.

Long story short!
He called the IPO & his team and they couldn’t deny knowing him...
after loads of talk, all of a sudden they started begging!

Oc: call me the SO (Station officer)!

SO: Sir, u sent for me!

OC: put them in cell and later take them to provost.

Oc: wait oh! what about the money y’all collect?

Inspr: its 100k he gave us, not 300k.

OC: U didn’t just collect money! You robbed him!

OC: I wouldn’t take that!! Never!! I will make sure y’all face the disciplinary board!

They started begging the guy

Long story short!

Oc: where is the petition of Mr.A case, that you are working on?

IPO: let me go bring it!

He brought the Petition after like 35mins!

Hmmmmm!

Oc: why did it take you that long?
IPO: The place I kept it was locked, that’s why Sir.

Oc collected the petition and read it out!l and mentioned the name of the petitioner (The person who wrote the petition against him). When the OC mentioned the name of the petitioner! Omo! Na so Mr.A screamed! Oga that’s my friend who posted the story on SM! Hmmmmm!

Then the IPO opened up! Plenty things really!
Wouldn’t be able to say it all on here! Will just state few.

The friend told the Officers that the guy is a GeeBoy(yahoo yahoo) and when he will be coming to Nigeria. When Mr.A arrived Nigeria,he took his friends out, lodge them in a Hotel & they cruised round the city! (Omo the friend told the IPO everything). He told the police that he just bought his mother a car and details of Mr.A account balance self. He was the one that sent a text to the Police men that they were in a spot and were about to leav and that was the day he was arrested.

Now this is where wahala dey!
The Friend wanted a share from the money Police collected from Mr.A! So he thought they collected 300k. The Friend even brought a Solicitor to negotiate the terms and conditions of his bail. According to Mr.A, the solicitor at some point was asking for 1million Naira for his services! At that point he said “I suspected some irregularities.” So he decided to call one of his uncles who spoke to some Policemen at that dept. That was when they agreed to accept the 100k. Mr.A also said “my friend kept asking him ‘how much dem collect for ur hand?’ That’s when I told him 300k!

Abeg long story short!

The 3 Policemen were detained for 3 weeks, faced disciplinary committee and were DEMOTED. Mr.A’s friend was arrested & charged to court for False information. The parent of Mr.A’s friend wanted to settle the matter out of court. The truth is we have done our job & it has been charged to court. We no longer have a say on that.

My people one thing we all need to know is..... “Never be an insincere friend, never be manipulative, one day u will be discovered & lose everything”

It was my landlord's turn to host that meeting and they always hold it at the house of the next host. My landlord doesn't live there and he couldn't make it so he begged me to accommodate them and he sent money for refreshments. We have a good relationship basically so I couldn't say no.

I'm sorry about your ordeal.

This greeting is the problem I have with the Yoruba's. I made it very clear to my Yoruba friend that if you greet too much in other parts of Nigeria (north, southeast, southsouth etc), you will be considered a village boy. My friend said greeting is but just a part of the Yoruba culture as a sign of respect to the elderly and for friendliness purposes too. I get his point but salutation is not love, plus greeting too much not only cheapens you as an individual, it's stressful and considered as disturbance sometimes. On top all the greeting in their culture, the Yoruba's disrespect the elderly and commit all other sorts of rubbish.

As a stranger, I must say, Greeting is a serious part of Yoruba culture that even an older person even greets younger one, bending over or prostrating is required for a younger person, one-by-one greeting etc. I've clashed with some over this greeting in their region. The first was my colleague at work. I had greeted them together, when I met her later to inquire about something, she challenged me that I did not greet her first (a normal thing they do say though). But hers really pissed me off that I quarreled her because I felt very bad that I brought myself to her to make that enquiry and get that embarrassment. After greeting them together, I should be greeting everybody one by one too? Others around defended me. She kept saying she doesn't know that's how my tribe does and that even annoyed me more. Emphasizing respect and how I brushed past her standing on the way. I later got to know as a newcomer that she is actually a lousy mu.mu in the office known by all to be a reckless talker. She has proven it wella so far too.

My second greeting experience with the Yoruba greeting was even a recent one. My landlord and two other elderly men and a young guy were at the front having a drink. I came to them, greeted and asked my landlord for NEPA bill. His elderly friend raised his voice at me that I had my hand in my pocket while greeting the landlord talking about the Yoruba as the most respectful and how he knows I was paying for rent but he had to correct me, the young guy followed to talk to me anyhow too. I made them know I was checking to be sure of the key to the door I just locked in my pocket and not putting my hand in my pocket while talking to the elderly. The landlord and his other elderly friend in my defense said I do greet them but I really felt harrassed nonetheless especially with the other young guy contributing to the matter. I don't know if the man who harassed me was high on the drink or something. I just did not want to spoil my mood so I quickly ended the talk and left.

The third was a lady in a betshop where I do come to charge. She spoke in Yoruba that I don't greet. It angered me because where I come from if you challenge someone about greeting, it is an insult saying the person has no manners. Over here, it definitely means something else - unfriendliness I think. I asked her if everyone entering the betshop comes to greet her. She had tried to famz me on many occasions and I just was not into her.

It was my landlord's turn to host that meeting and they always hold it at the house of the next host. My landlord doesn't live there and he couldn't make it so he begged me to accommodate them and he sent money for refreshments. We have a good relationship basically so I couldn't say no.
A round table in his compound is well enough not in my living area.... Shuuuu
You allowed complete strangers to dine and wine in your house, while you were asked to excuse them! ...

I wanted to press charges but begging was too much that day and he may simply deny it.
very childish of you...you allowed your sitting room to be used by unfamiliar people for the purpose of a meeting which you're not part of,barely three months into a place.
I've not heard anything of such to be honest....
