Over the past few weeks the internet was abuzz with the news of a 10year old pupil who was filmed performing several sexual acts on camera together with other Minor's who by all indication seem to be in the same age bracket,toungs started waging people began to apportion blames some blamed the school others blamed the parents and the rest blamed the child and it just went on and on till the story fizzled out. One thing I noticed was that most people failed to address the elephant in the room which is pornography, think about it where else would a child of that age bracket learn such acts if not from the constant watching and practicalization of pornography. Ever since the internet boom of the early 2000's it's become more easier for people to consume sexually explicit content as they are scattered all over the internet with little or no restrictions to those who can access it,and that's the reality just with the click of a button from a phone or a PC a child can have access to a never ending world of sexually explicit content and other vices that promotes bad behavorial traits in teenager's and adolescents. You see the people who own and run most of these sites are aware of the dangers their activities pose to the younger generation but who cares as long as the money keep rolling in. you see these children constitute a large portion of their consumer base so they don't actually care what happens to them as long as they keep subscribing and downloading their stuff, meanwhile the older generation are not helping matters either as we can hardly go by a week without one celebrity or the other releasing either a sex tape or a nude picture all to the glaring eyes of Internet users which predominantly consist of teenager's and adolescents. It's really a sad tale because it seems we are heading down a narrow tunnel marked for destruction, there's no limit to what these kids can view on the internet and also no control on the way things should be done it's just a free fall into the never ending world of fantasy. Most parents have been rendered powerless and helpless as they watch their kids go astray and Fall deeply into the never ending world of Internet fantasy and sexual exploitation all to the gains of a certain group of people who provide these services,with that being said one would question if there can ever be a solution to this menace well we won't know if we don't try right?, well I think it's high time most parents become vigilant and try to study the behavorial patterns of their children in other to monitor and know when certain changes have occurred. Thereafter they can push to know the reasons for these changes and proceed to correct the child accordingly while explaining vividly to him/her the resultant effect of the path they are threading and how it leads to a dead end, all these can be done without being violent or using provocative statements that might push the child deeper down that lane. Parents should also be watchful if the kind of company their children keep because as the saying goes evil communication corrupts good manners.i know you cannot fully monitor their day to day activities on the internet but with some effort from our parents and constant prayers surely these children will turn out to be better and greater people in the society. -uzor frank.
