These are my pictures from the annual Eid-El-Fitr Durbar (Hawan Daushe) that took place today (3rd of May 2022) in Bauchi. It was a fun experience so I decided to share it with you guys here on Nairaland. Lots of colours, people, animals and loud bangs.

I even got pictures of people playing with snakes!

The various troupes (many led by district heads) first assemble in the Bauchi State Government house, then emerge in turns, many of them mounted on horses and move around the city on a predefined route.

The routes are usually blocked to traffic, so if you have to go some place within the durbar route you better get there early in the morning or else your only option will be to walk.

Ok, here is a little magic trick. Who noticed the monitor lizard in the third, fourth and fifth pictures? Or were you to busy looking at the snake? If you didn't spot it, go back and check. You'll find it close to the sack.

Men, women and children turn out by the thousands to watch the spectacle. It's also nice to see our security forces keeping an eagle eye on the event.

I was busy fiddling with my camera when two little children with pythons round their necks passed by. Chai! I had to run ahead to make sure I got at least a pic. I couldn't do better than this because of the crowd. I basically had to force my hand through the crowd to get that pic, and I got some angry scowls for my effort. I'm sorry I failed you Lalasticlala, may be next time.

How these people successfully merged their tradition with their religion that you will hardly differentiate between which defines a Northerner.....


Btw.... I'm seeing snakes there ... is it part of their ceremony or just some youths trying to be foolish...

So the durbar is held only during Eid-El-Fitr (aka small Sallah) and never during the Eid-El-Kabir (or big Sallah) maybe because everybody wants to go home and slaughter their rams.

I even saw a drone (looked like some kind of Mavic Air or Pro model, it was far so I couldn't really tell) hovering in the air taking what must be some awesome shots.

I eventually ran out of charge and storage space on my camera, so there were lots more stuff I didn't get to capture. Like the camels, a guy that fell off his horse right in front of me (actually the horse sort of squatted for some reason and the guy fell off, it was funny), and the highlight when the Emir of Bauchi himself passed (the hail of gunfire was deafening!). I also got video footage which I'll share when I upload to YouTube. That's all folks. Hope you enjoyed it.
