The Portuguese has grown accustomed to competing for major honours down the years, but success in the Italian capital clearly means a lot to him.

Jose Mourinho was moved to tears after seeing Roma edge out Leicester to book their place in the 2021-22 Europa Conference League final.

A solitary strike from Tammy Abraham at Stadio Olimpico was enough to secure a 2-1 aggregate victory for the Serie A heavyweights over Premier League opposition, with Feyenoord now set to be faced in Tirana on May 25 with major silverware on the line.

Portuguese tactician Mourinho has grown accustomed to competing for top honours, and is now the first manager to reach the final of a continental competition with four different clubs, but success means as much to the 59-year-old now as it has ever done.

Emotion spilled out of Mourinho at the final whistle in Rome, and the tears were still flowing as he made his way back to the dressing room.

He told reporters afterwards on why a shot at another trophy with Roma means so much to him: “I am very emotional. This for us is our Champions League.

“When you work in Rome, live in Rome and breathe Rome, you breathe this club because it is the real club of the city.

“I felt from day one it is huge, but no victories and not many finals. The history is not related to the social dimension of the club.

“We managed to build an OK team that grew step by step so we could beat a Premier League [team]. Of course, I have had bigger moments than this but I am not feeling for myself, I am feeling for the people and my players.”

Win the league and fa cup on his return to Chelsea, won the Europa and League cup at Man U. Other coaches have caught up and surpassed him but he’s not finished. When Ancelotti came to Everton and didn’t achieve much, people like you wrote him off but today he’s a league winner in Spain and defeated arguably the most up to date coach in the world Guardiola. Roma hasn’t been in any European finals since 1991 and with Mourinho in just his first season with them has led them there. Has Mourinho turned As Roma to world beaters? No! But I bet that except you check google, you can’t mention 11 Roma players. That’s what he’s having to work with there and the city of Rome is currently loving it and optimistic too.

A club that won its last league title in 2000 is a small club compared to Europe’s big boys. As prestigious as Arsenal’s history is, when they mention teams in terms of competitiveness today, people will laugh at the mention of Arsenal. Same goes with Roma. I said something earlier which is; if you Met the average the average Football fan, how many AS Roma players can they mention?
The reason Roma is paying so much for a coach is because they are ambitious and are tired of languishing in 6th, 7th and 8th but a coach can only do so much. The players have to be available and honestly You can’t argue that Roma has better players than inter, AC Milan, Juve or Napoli. Mourinho is just playing catch-up really.

He was favorite through out the rounds and phases, though Bodoe Glimt tormented his team. I wish him luck, it's been long a trophy like this came home for both finalists.
