I believe they pointed to the sky and there is no country in the sky and the planets have their own set positions so no one pointed to them.

Look for hell first. If u find hell, just look opposite u will see heaven.

When there is an improvement in scientific observations and researches with advanced technological innovations, the misconception started fading off.
