As Sweden and Finland consider whether to apply for NATO membership in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a Swedish organisation has warned the move could "increase the risk of war in the nation". Gabriella Irsten, from the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society, told Sky News there would be a "big risk" if Sweden joined the defence alliance, adding: "I don't think that's wise at all. " She went on to say the move would make the country "more unsafe" and "hinder Sweden's history and role in pushing for peace and disarmament". "We feel that joining NATO would be a step too far," she said. "We're preparing for war and not trying to stop it. We still have a chance to stop Russia invading other countries like Finland and Sweden and instead of preparing for war we think we should hinder that."
