TenQ:

Human capital development has to do with two things
1. Appropriate Education
2. Renumeration
But I speak more about the value a nation places on their HUMAN CAPITAL. This value is what make the government do everything to developing the Human capital.

It was the human capital of USA that developed the atomic bomb
It was the human capital of USA that accomplished the space mission to the moon.

Money is what a government uses to develop this human capital IFF only they feel it is important.

Nigeria will never develop until we rightly value our Human Capital and Fund them to achieve national objectives

Do you know how many Scholarship Facilities available in the USA even when education is not free?
Are you aware that Us Government facilitates Student Loans payable when a student begin the work?

How much value do you think our government places on Human Capital (this will affect how they develop such capital)?
Forget about it. We are royally screwed already!

CorperKola:
Mr TenQ, let me enlighten you further.
It is because of ignorant graduates like you that this nation is so backward.
Even the professors you mentioned, professors are paid fairly on a comparable scale all over the world. What makes it terrible for nigerian professors is foreign exchange devaluation effects and they are not the only ones affected by that. If a prof was ear ing 416k when naira to dollar was 150, you can see what has happened now that dollar is 500 or God knows what.
Professors are not rich whether in America or britain or anywhere. If you have decided to become a prof, it means you dont really like money or care about it.
The ASUU you are defending, is it not cash they are fighting for?
Knowledge without money is nothing, thats y profs fight for grants to do r&d all the time
Cash is king, my good friend
It is of no wonder that our economic experts who reason like you practice "foodcrop- cashcrop economy" in this 2022!

If within the same country, those who work in NNPC (who can't refine a drop of crude oil), FIRS (who generate no money but backed up by law, people pay the FG through them) or CBN (who collect money's enforced by law) are rated above a professor, only God can help this country.

As a post-doc you earn more than a professor in Nigeria but stupid government officials think you can get a world class output from those you despise so much!?

Government cannot rely on their Human capacity for any thing: Why?

Whatever you sow, that you shall reap!

That is why you Government don't have shame when a Physics Graduate or Engineering Graduate is driving Taxi!

What abt those who train d so call lecturers, how much are they paid. I mean d primary and secondary teachers? Besides which special work is a lecturer doing? Answer ds questions without bias and u will understand better
It is voices like yours that crumbled the public primary and secondary set up. Once upon a time, teachers in both cried, protested & went on strikes for fair wages and better working conditions. They got tired & frustrated and gave up. That is why Private primary and secondary schools are littered all around with nearly no public ones seen because there's minimal funding from FG.

Where available, no sane person that can afford Private would take his kids to public elementary schools. It all started with comments like yours.

Consequently, politicians then have more money to loot. They can even borrow ahead and transfer the burden of repayment to us and our children. The 1.96 Billion dollars borrowed to fund rail project to Maradi in Niger Republic is more than 4 years budgetary allocations to Primary and secondary schools.

You don't have to worry. Your prayers would be answered soon. The "useless" Lecturers would hands off & concentrate of their welfare alone. By that time, maybe we will know how useful they are...

See what am saying, when every tom, dick n harry has a bsc, due to subsidized education. Whose fault is that?
America for example, how many people have college degrees?
And education is not the surest way to prosperity, am sure you know that.
How many people have phds on the list of the world's richest people.
The welfarist policies of the govt from the inception of the country, which was unsustainable made sure that desirables or infrastructure that constitute an enabling environment for the private sector will never be good enough or of high quality i.e education, power, security etc
To add to the problem, people thought they were in heaven and started breeding like rats.
The consequences are what we are seeing today

Unfortunately, you are still reasoning myopically.

Right now, graduates CANNOT be employed in their area of specializations because we have a failed economy. It is not because we have too many graduates.

Let me ask you a question: what is the job of a Chemist or a Physicist?
How many do you know doing the job they professionally trained for apart form teaching?
Do we have industries that do proper R and D?

I gave you the example of China where government fully fund their education: are they technologically backward?

China knows the value of HUMAN resources, therefore, they will send a professor of Chemistry to USA to do M.Sc Industrial Chemistry (with a view of STEALING Technologies). What is the best your country have done?

see powers... That's he's the president or cool coolwhat?

When has COS become that powerful to summon high profile civil servants?

We're gradually seeing the cabals. No wonder the first lady said her husband has never been in control.

On 1st February, Buhari gave directive to His Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, the Ministers of Education and Labour and Employment, Adamu Adamu and Chris Ngige, respectively, to address the concerns of the striking aggrieved workers’ unions. This give him the capacity to summon them!

You were against making tertiary institutions affordable to all and I gave you an instance where they pay zero kobo as school fees!

The problem is not about school fees but the value placed on human capital. This reflects how much the nation is willing to pay for its development!

Hmmm

Government only shakes body when their looting spree or activities are threatened- sequel to the planned protest by NANS to disrupt primary election;

They quickly supplied aviation fuel and attended to Aviation challenge.

Only ASUU knows how to hold government at the jugular and they get results unlike NLC.

They are occupied with their 2023 presidential ambition while education is at an all-time tottering level and hairsbreadth away from monumental total collapse.

If you don't support ASUU movements remember that if this government is permitted, Nigerian students will be paying 1m as school fees and they will crumble public tertiary institutions like primary and public school.

How can lecturers be paid #120,000 even a PHD holder gets paid around #150k+. The highest pay is 416k paid to professors that occupies about 4-5% of the population of staff. What about the paltry pay of others?! after over 20 years of tertiary education sometimes

Ordinary BSC in CBN, FIRS, NDA, NNPC, and other government parastatals earn extremely fat

NNPC Team Manager earns an average of about ₦ 1.19m monthly, Well Operations Superintendent earn up to ₦ 1.4m monthly and Human Resources Analysts earn around ₦665K.

The CBN staff salary structure is quite high but these salaries are not easily disclosed. The salaries below was inputed by some CBN staffs.

Deputy Governor CBN earns around ₦3.34m monthly, Branch Controller earns ₦900k and Managers earn around ₦700k.

The Entry level salary of FIRS employees ranges from ₦80,000 to ₦100,000 monthly. However, their ogas earn mammoth salaries

A level 8 staff of the PENCOM, at the end of his or her induction/recruitment training, get allowances in excess of over 2 million naira.

On monthly bases, level 8 Staff of the Commission earn around N180,000.

Unconfirmed reports of BOI suggest that some staff of the bank take home around N500,000 per month.

Not to mention DPR, Nimasa, NPA etc

you can abuse ASUU all you want but the fact is laid bare.

Most of these figures are far beyond what lecturers are paid.
Ask yourselves, students say they don't want to be lecturers because of perceived poor pay then with this trend, who will teach our children in the future when even the brightest brains are jetting out.

This should be a collective fight but ASUU must ensure no lecturer short-changes any student on resumption.

We didn't even talk about degree-less politicians fat salaries. Please don't quote me of you don't understand the plight of teachers in Nigeria. It's a collective fault. Primary and secondary school teachers are even worse in payment but the society doesn't care.

IamMichael.
