Sanity in Nigeria judicial system it could happen one day because in Nigeria court they would have been adjourning the case till the couples served the term jail for stealing

Judiciary of highest bidder, no hope for common man in Nigeria judiciary system

The Judge was trying to be more of human than a saint. He must have put himself in their shoes and imagined what would have done. Weldon Judge. If it's my con3 they will be sentenced to 24years with hard labor.

Why would people be even charged for such minor offenses

Someone told me a man went to jail for stealing a pack of indomie

Abba, Nigeria & Nigerians, why na

The fact they were pardoned doesn't mean it should be encouraged or others should also not be punished, stealing is stealing. It always starts from little things so yes even if you steal a pack of indomie, you should be punished.

according to the criminal code, the motive for carrying out an action or offence is irrelevant. in my opinion the judgement of the judge is flawed; were is the judgement for the person whose wheat was stolen.

I believe his philosophy of punishment is less of punitive, custodial and deterrence.

in as much as I know within me the judgement is wrong, but oga we re humans! But I expect the judge to have sentenced them to 8months Working in the owners farm and Helping harvest crops and do other farm work than outrightly a acquitting them, is wrong as this would tend to encourage more theft!

your point is highly valid, he could have mitigated there punishment but there should have been a punishment, so others who would want to tow same path would be deterred from doing same.

Proverbs 6:30-31 “People, do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.”

Big up to the judge I remember when I was almost burnt alive for stealing sardines in okene kogi state but God sent a man like him to save me and since then I have not looked back

This is what humanity is all about.
I love what the Judge did.
Let love lead.
If they ever have the mind to steal again, make sure they serve double punishment for their crimes

God bless you sir , I am so touched by your actions.may God bless you sir.having passedthrough such a phase where there is no food at home especially when kids are involved, a man can become desperate to survive.

I remember back then in school when hunger wanted to frustrate I and my roommate, having stayed for a whole day without eating anything,he sarcastically called me and said if we don't come out to hustle, we might die of hunger,he just left the house to a gambling spot opposite our building and started supporting one of the gamblers and fortunately for him he was able to make 600 naira from supporting and cheering gamblers that we had always criticized.

I was inside when he called my name and asked me to come outside. He brought out 600 and it was like a million naira before my eyes.we bought a big loaf of bread and cooked beans ,we devoured everything in a few minutes.the woman selling it was even surprised the way we attacked the food.

Yes in law I heard if you steal to eat you will be pardoned they are pardoned, because it is food they stole they did not steal property possession.

A NIGERIAN BASTARD JUDGE would rather sentence them to 20 yrs imprisonment while people like Orji Uzo Kalu would get 6 months house arrest or option of fine of 100, 000 naira
