Ibrahim Maqari, imam of the National Mosque Abuja has justified the horrific murder of christian female student Deborah Samuel, blaming her for crossing the red lines of Islamic faith.

Absolving her killers, Mr Maqari hinted grave consequences awaited persons who crossed the religion’s red lines, noting that such conduct will not be tolerated.

“It should be known to everyone that we the Muslims have some red lines beyond which MUST NOT be crossed. The dignity of the Prophet (PBUH) is at the forefront of the red lines. If our grievances are not properly addressed, then you should not be criticized for addressing them ourselves,” said a statement posted on the imam’s Twitter account.

A Sokoto government official, Anas Mohammad Sani, also threatened that more Christians in Nigeria will be murdered if they say things considered disrespectful to their revered Prophet Muhammad.

“Muslims don’t take insults against beloved prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in whatever form,” he warned.

According to him, the Shehu Shagari College of Education student was brutally murdered because of her reckless comments regarding the Islamic faith.

Justifying the gruesome murder of the female Christian student, Mr Sani said, “The earlier our Christian brothers and sisters understand this, the better for all of us. May the recklessness of our tongues never drive us to (an) early grave.”

Ms Samuel, a 200 level Home-Economics student accused of blasphemy, had complained bitterly over the influx of religious broadcast messages shared to her department’s WhatsApp page.

Her complaints elicited the fury of fanatic coursemates and schoolmates who stoned her to death and set her lifeless body ablaze.

Killing of Deborah Samuel is absolutely unacceptable. If anyone can kill anyone in Islam, there will be no need for Sharia court in the first place. This is barbarism of the highest order.

I have never seen or heard of any traditional worshipper insult Mohammed.


I have never seen or heard of any Muslim openly insult Jesus, because Jesus has a big place in Islam.

Our biggest problem is not the guys that killed the young lady Deborah but the Islamic leaders supporting the killings in this country. Imagine reading in this same report the horrendous comment of the Abuja National Mosque Imama or a Government official in Sokoto state threatening to kill more Christians if anyone dear speaks evil of their Mohammed?! Have such misguided leaders stopped to ponder on the fact that if Christians have similar mindsets, then this country will be uninhabitable by all? If Christians say, speak badly about Jesus and be killed, then, won't we just be killing ourselves, could that be the wish of the good God for us? Certainly, not!

Our second biggest problem is the leadership of our security agencies, especially the police, DSS and Civil Defence. What have they been doing? how many arrests have been made? If none, who is stopping the arrest? Why are we not been informed?

The third problem is the press, both the print and electronic media. What has happened to investigative journalism? why are we not hearing the reasons why arrests were not made by the security agencies? Is it GMB that is stopping them from arresting killers? Or who is that officer blocking the arrest? The press as a member of the fourth estate should understand clearly they owe the society a sacred obligation to expose the cover up. They should know that it is such killers and killing that snowball into terrorism. Enough said, may God deliver us from the hands of the leader enemies.
