" This implies that since the APC presidential primary starts on Sunday, May 29, if the President does not sign the bill into law by Sunday (tomorrow), the political office holders, including Buhari, may not be able to vote unless they have been voted as delegates".

Our political class are the most irresponsible, always seeking a short cut to power. If as Governor, Minister, President, VP, Senator, Rep member, Commissioner, House of Assembly member or political appointee at State or Federal level and party member, you cannot go to your ward to get accessed by your people and be found worthy to vote in elective convention as a delegate, then you don't have any business being in government. Buhari should not sign any amendment. Go to your ward and see your party members from your ward for the home truth regarding how they perceive you.

Malami Is smiling and grinning to himself. So they can amend what favours them in the Act, yet they refused to Amend his own. Thunder go fire all of them for that Chamber.

Malami would never Sign this Rubbish Amendment. If he can't be a Candidate, then they too can never be Delagates.

probably you don't know how delegates emerged. Before now, we have two categories of delegates, statutory delegates or super delegates and elected delegates. Super or statutory delegates are former or current political office holders or polical appointees, former or current elected political officers and some former party executives. While the elected delegated are those elected for the purpose of the primaries during party Congresses.

Before 2022 amended electoral act, those in category of super/statutory delegates does not stand to be elected as elected delegates because their membership as a delegates is automatic by virtue of their position.

NASS thought with the new section 84(12) of the new electoral act, they only succeeded in getting at the executive of government not knowing that they have equally indirectly shot themselves out as as super delegates.

I don't need to be lectured about how delegates emerge, I am very conversant with the Elect oral Act. I need a complete democratization of the system. Let every delegate be an elected delegate as National Assembly intended in the Electoral Act earlier passed which they now seek to tinker with. Let our elected and appointed political officials go back to the grassroot and test their popularity from within their party at the grassroot level. That is what I prefer to living in Abuja or anywhere and becoming automatic delegate especially because you happen to be an appointees of a government. If anyone deserves automatic delegate status, it ought to be elected government officials, other need to go and test their popularity at the ward level of the Party. Again, we know how Governors swell delegate lists by appointing endless aides and PAs close to party primaries who will then determine the outcome in their respective states. That cannot represent democracy to me.

While I totally agree with your submission and this would ideally be the best way to elect candidates in elections. The challenge is that Nigeria is a dysfunctional country and things don't go straight like in an ideal society. As it stands, the governors have pocketed this ammendment and they are the ones selecting delegates from their states and not the party members, so whoever the governors tell them to vote would be winner hence why the National assembly members quickly want to ammend it. The governors would determine anybody that would Win election in their states next year if the law is not amended.

From the above some political parties are done with their primary and candidate has been known. The question now is can we have one election with two electoral laws. Based on some political parties have complied with the present while two parties are looking for a new law.
The president shouldn't sign for equityand fairness. This is non statutory delegates (those non elected) people close to the people kind of to make the choice. Ahmed lawan was hoping this wud favour him. Let's see at the end.

probably you are not a politician, the so called delegates are not elected because of their popularity. They are elected (chosen) by those politicians in Abuja and government appointees. Until you are involved, you won't understand, Have you ever seen anybody campaigning to be delegates? If they don't campaign to elected delegates, how do they win?

When Buhari refused assent to that bill in February citing grave errors, all of you attacked him. Politicians especially those in PDP and some in APC organised CSOs and NGOs on a protest to compel Buhari to sign. Now he has signed it and it has now dawned on everybody that NASS did a shoddy job. In a bit to clip the wings of the governors, they not only excluded themselves unknowingly from the process but even made the governors LORDS. Now they determine who holds any elective position in Nigeria. Buhari please don't sign. If you must, sign it in June or await the outcome of supreme court on section 84(12).
