Good one Maruti. We both share same passion for African/Nigeria footballers. I remember some 3 or 4 years ago on NL, I started a thread I titled African Footballer of the Month. Your guess on the no of posts the thread attracted is as good as mine.,

NAPOLI (0)

DIVISION BY COUNTRY:
7 PLAYERS: GHANA

Ghana is the best represented African nation in both Europa League and the Champions League. Plus AC Milan has Sulley Muntari (not counted to the Champions League tally) who is going through a resurgence at his on-loan club. At the moment 17 players look set to remain in the 1/4 finals, including 10 French league players.

DIVISION BY COUNTRY OF CLUB:
France: 10 (34%)
England: 8 (28%)
Italy: 5 (17%)

Switzerland: 2 (7%)
Spain: 1 (3%)
Re: Africans In The European Champions League 2011/2012 by marutimon: 8:47am On Mar 15, 2012
QUARTER FINALISTS:

3 of the ties were won by the teams with more African players (Chelsea, OM, Barcelona), 3 by those with less African players (Real, Apoel, Bayern), while the remaining two amongst teams with an equal amount of Africans. The most African team Olympique Marseille progressed with Chelsea following suit.

OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE (7): Andre Ayew (Ghana), Jordan Ayew (Ghana), Nicolas N'koulou (Cameroon), Stephane Mbia (Cameroon), Djimi Traore (Mali), Soulermane Diawara (Senegal), Charles Kabore (Burkina Faso)
AC MILAN (5): Kevin Prince Boateng (Ghana), Kingsley Boateng (Ghana), Rodney Strasser (Sierra Leone), Kingsley Umunegbu (Nigeria), Djamel Mesbah (Algeria)
CHELSEA (4): Didier Drogba (Cote d'Ivoire), Salomon Kalou (Cote d'Ivoire), Mikel Obi (Nigeria), Michael Essien (Ghana)
BARCELONA (1): Seydou Keita (Mali)
APOEL NICOSIA (0)
REAL MADRID (0)
BAYERN MUNICH (0)

DIVISION BY COUNTRY:
5 PLAYERS: GHANA
2 PLAYERS: COTE D'IVOIRE, NIGERIA, CAMEROON, MALI
1 PLAYERS: BURKINA FASO, SENEGAL, SIERRA LEONE, ALGERIA

That means that more than half the Africans progressed (17 players), but on the other hand half of the teams have no African players.

Ghana remains the best represented African nation in both Europa League and the Champions League. Plus AC Milan has Sulley Muntari (not counted to the Champions League tally) who is going through a resurgence at his on-loan club. That means 15 players progressed to the 1/4 final.

DIVISION BY COUNTRY OF CLUB:
France: 7 (41%)
Italy: 5 (29%)
England: 4 (24%)
Spain: 1 (6%)
