LAGOS, - It was under late President Umaru Musa Yar’dua, and Goodluck Jonathan who was then the vice president that this ridiculous idea of dangerous precedent was laid in Nigeria, to dialogue with criminals groups. When chance is given to chance itself it becomes a chance.

This happened during the MOSOP GROUP, AND OTHER VARIOUS GROUPS IN DELTA STATE This extends further to many areas in the country calling themselves human right fighters or self determinant group.

Since then many organisations have sprang out and many more are still on the way.

Truly as people say, it is not the event that matters but the cause that lead to the event. It’s not an understatement to say that Delta State has been neglected for so long and this neglect and suffering propelled the determination of the few and genuine people come out and air their feeling to the whole wide world.

It was part of the suffering that claimed the life of Saro Wiwa, though an Ogoni man.

One of the vocal sons of the Delta State which exposed the evil being perpetrated by the oil companies, and our government deliberately closed its eyes from the degradations of these cruel foreign companies that works in that part of our country.

The awareness becomes known to the whole world. Then these small groups who are mainly the youth came up with resistance against the foreign oil company.

They started by setting alight the refineries and made the place become unworkable for these workers.

When they realise that it is an avenue to make money they abandoned their previous good courses and changed to kidnapping innocent people and start demanding huge amount of money from their victims, since then the new policy has enticed young jobless people as a lucrative career, the rest is now history.

The dialogue they dare seek when President Olusegun Obasanjo was Head of State, but when Yar’dua took over he dialogued with these "faceless group’’ and since then, these confused group of people have realised that they can become power to be reckoned with.

That was how these nefarious organisations have come to stay.

Once this has been granted with one group others would want to test the water with subsequent government. You cannot grant dialogue with one and reject another one that would be tantamount to favouritism and nepotism.

For Boko Haram to be dictating their terms to the government now before they can maintain peace did not just arise in one day it was because of the dangerous precedents that the federal government have laid down. Because this organisation is very much aware of what is going on in the world.

The recent change of heart by America to want to negotiate with Afghanistan war lords is a testimony that there’s no bad peace neither would you ever get a good war.

Although it’s good at times to build a golden bridge for one’s enemy to cross as you may in the nearest future use the same bridge.
