What was an act of benevolent from the popular Port Harcourt Church - Kings Assembly has caused sorrow to families and loved ones. The charity event tagged "shop for free" was organized to help the less privileged.

Reports gathered from a church member said that the crowd started building the night before the event. As many came from different parts of the state and outside the state. The event was slated for 9am but there was already a mammoth crowd at the entrance of the venue by 3am (6hrs before time). Some women came with their children so they could get more slots and free items. However, as at 7:30am, the crowd was uncontrollable as they forced their way in, hence the stampede.

The punch has reported that 31 persons (including children) have been confirmed dead. The church is yet to comment. Further investigation is ongoing by the police.

None appears cachetic, yet modest conduct has always been our problem.

You may also be shocked to realise that the items to be given away were brought in enormous quantities to ensure such goes round, but some families would want to outsmart others.

Sometimes, poverty may not be our issue but Greed does more damage.
I have seen Nigerians pack Food items, only to resort to selling some to the general public.
Some keep these Food items in stock without preservation which will definitely lead to decomposition of these items.

We need to work on ourselves!
Now, d CHURCH will ever regret ever doing this.
