In this guide, we'll show you how to create your own website with GoDaddy. Get step-by-step instructions on setting up hosting, building pages, adding new content, and more.

Where to start when building a website with GoDaddy

Over the years, GoDaddy has, in itself, become a household name in the world of affordable web hosting. Additionally, they also offer a very popular website building tool which they call the “Website Builder”.

The biggest thing about GoDaddy Website Builder is that it's simple and easy to use. If you're looking for a quick and relatively low-effort way to create a professional-looking website in hours, the Creator is probably the perfect tool for you. That said, if you're going to tweak and customize every aspect and detail of your website… then you'll probably have better luck with Squarespace, Wixes, and Wordpress.

So for the purposes of this article, let's assume you're already convinced and charmed by GoDaddy's features and ready to get started.

First, you will be prompted to choose the type of website you want to create. If you intend to sell products online, choose the “Create online stores” option. If you don't intend to accept payments through your website (or run an online store), choose the "Website Builder" option.

Keep in mind, though, that if you decide to start with a conventional website, you can always add online store functionality to it later. However, for the purposes of this guide, we're sticking to showing you how to create a conventional website.

Start your free trial

After choosing your site type, you can then start your one-month free trial. The latter represents a considerable advantage, especially if you are entering the world of website building for the very first time. We encourage you to learn, explore, and take the time to decide if GoDaddy Website Builder is the right tool for you. To start your trial, click one of the "Start Free" buttons on the GoDaddy site. You will then only need to provide an email address and create a password, then you will automatically be ready to create.

Choose a plan after your free trial ends

After your free trial ends, GoDaddy offers you four plans. You can check out our full, in-depth breakdown of the main features of each here, but here's a quick recap of each of the plans.

The “Basic” plan costs $12.99 per month. It lets you connect custom domain names and gives you access to GoDaddy's web analytics tool. However, this plan does not include SEO functionality (search engine optimization).

The “Standard” plan at a cost of $18.99 per month includes all the features of the Basic plan plus a built-in SEO feature and a set of social media marketing features.

If you choose to upgrade to the "Premium" plan at a cost of $23.99 per month, you will enjoy access to unlimited social media platforms for your business pages, unlimited posts on social media and 25,000 marketing emails per month. This plan also gives you the ability to schedule appointments and accept payments.

Finally, the “E-commerce” plan is offered at a cost of $40 per month. Choose this option if you plan to create a full-fledged online store. You will then have access to the functionalities of product listings, payments, shipping and much more.

Enter your industry and website name

After selecting the plan, GoDaddy then displays a window asking you what kind of website you would like to create. Here, all you have to do is enter the name of your industry (e.g. marketing, music store, real estate, etc.) and then choose a name for your website (“Chez Randy – Records and Vinyl ", for example). Once you complete this step, GoDaddy will generate a sample template page based on the information you enter.

You can continue to edit your industry information and site name until GoDaddy displays a template you like. Once selected, press the “Select” button to continue.

Pay attention to your choice of theme

Theme is about the overall layout and basic design of your site template. Click on the “Theme” button and the platform will display a series of different options. It should be fairly easy to find a theme that meets your needs.
