This is the problem with Nigerians in general and their leaders in particular, the lack of foresight, the lack of visionaries.
You knew you wanted to become President as a 'southern muslim' under the banner of a party with a strong northern base. This conundrum was not anticipated when the government you helped foist took to sectionalism, nepotism and tribalism like a duck to water, raising all sorts of ethno-religious dust along the southern coast and Christian hinterland.

With that every hope of getting Nigerians to ignore ethno-religious sentiments when it now became his turn went up in smoke.
Mr. Tinubu should have been the lightning rod for this government these past 7 years, helping it put out fires all over the middle-belt, south-east and parts of the south-west the extremists in it were stoking.

But they say hindsight is 20/20 and the desperation amongst his disciples in trying to resurrect the long dead solidarity across tribe and tongue of the botched MKO Abiola presidential bid is lost on the fact that all Nigerians had a common enemy then, today that enemy is within, amongst and in their faces. How they expect solidarity when ethno-religious persecution and outright cleansing persists under the watch of his benefactor remains a mystery.

If Mr. Tinubu eventually makes his way to Aso Rock I hope he will take a cue and start preparing for the regime after his and the Nigeria of the future where as they claim 'performance not ethnicity or religion' should matter. In truth the average Nigerian deep down recognises that performance should be the primary consideration but until the divisive demons of disunity are exorcised and banished permanently, this will remain a pipe dream.

If Mr. Tinubu gets there this should be his primary assignment. But if he tows the line of this government and continues in wanton exclusion as he has done for two decades in Lagos, Nigeria will face an even bigger problem by the time his regime is ended and performance will never be the criteria is establishing leadership at the highest levels.

Word for the wise. We did not get to this sorry state by mistake. Muslim-muslim or Christian-christian is a heat sink caused by this regime. Mr. Tinubu's supporters must come to accept that and stop blaming everyone else.
