School of Health Information Management, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, on Wednesday, matriculated 52 Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) students for 2021/2022 academic session.

Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode, described the school of health information management as one of the eight schools in the health facility.

Bode, who was represented by the hospital’s Chief Medical Advisory Chairman (CMAC), Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, said that the tertiary health institution was standing on the tripod of patient care, research and training.

According to him, the school of information management is the training aspect of the hospital.

Bode said that the hospital had fibre optic network for its health information management, adding that in the next few weeks, the use of health information management would be introduced.

This, he said, would comprise such things as medical records, email and school admission, amongst others, stressing that it would be paperless.

Speaking at the occasion, the acting Head of the school, Mr Samson Gidado, said that the matriculating students were made up of 30 ND and 22 HND students.

Gidado explained that health information management had to do with information management relating to health activities.

He said that their function was to collate and process information, and ensure that they are well-preserved and made available to users at any point in time.

Gidado described health information management as a pillar for health care delivery system, noting that the matriculating students would later become health information professionals.

He advised the students to be focused, bearing in mind that anyone desiring to pursue a goal in life should see it accomplished.

The acting head further told them to see themselves graduating at the end of the course in two years’ time.
