One of the reason I don't use my phone when there is lightening and thunderstorm is that I've been struck before while on call.

The phone was completely destroyed and I had problems with my right eardrum for about 3 months before balance was restored.

Guess I was lucky because most victims of lightening usually end up dead.
Never again.

Perhaps she was using the phone with charger still plugged in. If not you can't be killed by lightning when your on a phone call with your phone unplugged.
