Proper life jacket can't safe anybody in such situation.
I served in a riverine community, life jacket can't do a jack even those given birth in that community can't swim out of such river once it rained.
To now talk about Corpers, it's only God that can assure safety in such situation.

The only remedy is don't send Corpers to such community, it's like a death sentence.

May God console the families, Just a pity we are in a country ruled by bad leaders, nothing stops GEJ as a CinC, linking the communities with bridges, we also used water ways during my nysc days at ogboinbiri southern ijaw years ago very dangerous

When you request for such, you will hear words like "why you they fear","non they do like woman" . I know if they had told the guy in charge should wait a little bit he will be like "I don dey drive the boat for so, so and so years" . Probably, he wanted to quickly go on a trip to make more money. If you value your life, you shouldn't accept taking such a trip.

Na wa o, i also served in southern ijaw bayelsa state, i was scared of rivers coz i can't swim but thank God, may their soul rest in peace

God I thank you o! I remembered my various journey from Koluama II to yenegoa,(about 3-4hrs) on the river those were high risk journey.
How can I forget when our speed boat developed engine problem in the middle of nowhere on the river, water body surrounded us only, God answered our prayers by sending a speed boat chartered by a shevron staff who rescued us.

Putting on Life jacket can’t guarantee you or save you from drowning if you’re not trained on how to use it.
While I was training on Survival at sea on health safety and environment, a lady with life jacket was drowning right in front, not until she was Rescued.
You need to be taught on safety techniques on how to use the life jacket, just putting it on is not a guarantee.
