It is crucial at this moment to know who is holding the students of public universities from resuming their classes if it is the Federal Government (FG) or the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The prolonged strike embarked by ASUU has made students stay beyond their time at home and delay finishing their studies. It is over four months since the warning strike and the students are eager to know if they would be returning to school or not.

ASUU stated that it had made a presentation to the Federal Government's team, which was set up to renegotiate the 2009 agreements. The panel had also reported back to the FG.

ASUU made it clear that it had nothing else to add as all have been presented and they are waiting for the government to act so that they will know the next step to take.

At this point, the ball is in the court of the government which will decide to act appropriately so that students can get back to classes or otherwise and the strike lingers with students being held back at home.

The issue of the incessant strike has become part of Nigeria's schedule or calendar, especially for public institutions. This can be erased seeing that this affects millions of students and youth.

If the students are continuously held back at home, the future is bleak for the country, and seeing how insecurity has plunged the country into a state of unrest with everyone's hearts in their mouths.

Students should not be held at ransom again with all the inconsistencies and hiatus in our educational system.

If we want to achieve one of the sustainable development goals, which is quality education, students must be prevented from being held by the strike which is indirectly pointing to the failure of the government to meet the demands of the union.

The students are tired and frustrated with the strike and will need not be held back again at home.

Education is the right of every student and child and they must not be held back by industrial action or the inability to meet the needs of the institutions.

I think it's ASUU that's holding students. I heard Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has resumed and lectures has started

That stup*d, selfish, useless cult called ASUU is the reason I am still to graduate. The same idiots who extort students through handouts and poorly written, plagiarized books are still the same fools going on strike. These scraps often times don't even come to class, they bleep female students in exchange for grades and exhibit a God-like attitude. Fools!
