High-Paying Oil And Gas Jobs

Here are a few highly skilled occupations that are seriously needed in the oil and gas sector.

If you graduate in one of these fields and possess such skills, you have a better chance of getting an offer of employment at an oil company.

Petroleum Engineer

The oil and gas industry is seeking oil engineers capable of carrying out vital responsibilities.

These include the development of usable systems that can improve reservoir performance, well control with sub-sections, appropriate evaluation, flow recommendation, etc.

Petroleum Engineers are in several classes.

We have reservoir engineers, petroleum geologists, and production engineers. Thus, regardless of your petroleum expertise, you have a higher chance to get a job in the oil industry.

Energy Engineer

It’s another high-demand job in the petroleum industry. Energy engineers are needed to identify effective, clean, and innovative means of providing energy.

Other responsibilities include test running and developing machinery to enhance existing operations, performing research on how to create new energy, developing mechanisms that have the capacity of reducing emissions from fossils, and many more.

In addition to the above responsibilities, and energy engineer is expected to have the following attributes.

They include exceptional knowledge in energy marketing, energy efficiency legislation, the ability to identify problems and provide proactive solutions, good communication skills, and so on.

Wellsite Geologist

Well, geologists are in high demand in the oil and gas industry due to their spectacular skills. Oil companies need them to analyze, evaluate and describe a variety of formations during drilling.

Apart from that, they are to perform other operations such as supervising mud logging, MWD, and LWD, analyzing drilling hazards and a bit optimization, ensuring the safety and wellness of workers at the well site, and other responsibilities.

However, a good geologist is required to possess a few special skills to add up with their expertise.

They include the ability to work autonomously and under pressure, critical and analytical skills, outstanding communication skills, the ability to handle sophisticated machines, and much more.

Marine Specialist

The oil and gas industries need marine professionals who can carry out various operations at sea. This is due to the regular use of ships and boats for the transportation of crude oil, food products, liquefied gas,, and so on.

Other responsibilities include maintaining the stability of machines at sea, refueling, working with mining engineers and other specialists, etc.

Drilling Engineers

Since the extraction of oil has a good deal to do with mining, it made drilling engineers to be highly demanded by most oil companies not only in Nigeria but across the globe.

Their job responsibilities consist of designing and picking out the best wellhead types of equipment, keeping track of daily progress of good operations; ensuring environmental safety standards during drilling, monitoring, and maintenance of wells, etc.

There are far more responsibilities that drilling engineers have to take on in the industry than what we have enumerated above. They are the skill set that can enable you to secure employment in an oil company.

Geochemist

This is one of the least-attended fields of study in Nigeria, though only a handful of universities are offering this field of expertise.

Geochemists working in oil and gas industries are required to use physical and inorganic chemistry to study the natural formulation of chemical elements present in rocks, soil, and other minerals.

Other responsibilities include the audit of gas chromatography, carbon and isotope data, viscosity, and solvent extraction.

Beyond that, they also visit sites and obtain samples, map specific places for research and analysis, interpretation and data, analyze results, and collaborate with other experts.

Geoscientist

Geoscientists are experts in discovering and exploiting sustainable and exploitable natural resources such as gas, oil, water, and other mineral resources.

As a result, they are highly sought after in the oil industry for such operations. In addition to this, a geoscientist may interpret data using sophisticated software, develop underground geological models, produce geological maps, etc.

Pipeline and Piping Engineers

These two occupations are critical to the oil and gas industry.

They carry out certain responsibilities such as building, design, maintenance, integrity, and repairs. Piping and pipeline engineers also work with mining engineers and other specialists to ensure safe transportation of crude oil.

Hydrographic Surveyor

Hydrographists are also termed hydrographers. Oil companies require it to remotely operate autonomous underwater vehicles to obtain data sets.

Other responsibilities include providing reliable and accurate information on the development of offshore wind farms, ocean research, coastal work, dredging, oil and gas, and other mineral resources.

Mud Logger

Mudguards are primarily trained to monitor and record drilling activities and to provide information while extracting oil and gas.

However, they may perform other duties, such as using various laboratory techniques to analyze samples, perform field maintenance, describe rock samples, predict unfavorable drilling conditions, and everything else.

For the here and now, this is where we are going to draw the cotton to our discussion. The above occupations or jobs are among the ten most sought after in the oil and gas industry.

These positions require highly qualified candidates who have acquired some level of expertise. The professionals in these fields scarcely lack jobs and they are largely compensated for their professionalism.
