How do I check the RAM and clean it up?
MarveworldG:
3 things.

Check your RAM, clean it up and install then try again.

If it doesn't work,

Then your boot able file in your hard drive is corrupt.

If not...

Your processor is bad, you will have to replace the processor, it doesn't cost much to replace.

Modified : to everyone quoting that RAM is out of this definitely never had a complicated pc booting problems.
As a technician, try to boot a pc without a ram and get the result. Now you've learned a new thing grin. I can hear you say thanks
Re: Boot Device Not Found by Osnami: 1:24am On Jul 03, 2022
It may be an update issue as the windows usually updates from time to time. I didn't do any settings on it prior to the time it started misbehaving. Presently, it misbehaves and shows the BIOS error like 3 times a day. If I switch it off, it starts working normal again
FluxEmpire:
If you've not tampered with anything like the BIOS, it's likely:
- a corrupt windows
- an update was running and you didn't let it get completed
- a shift in the storage (SSD); though unlikely since they're mostly screwed
- a bad SSD
- you connected an external hard drive removed from a former laptop you have and it's still connected to the laptop; probably the OS on it may have interfered.

If you tampered with settings in the BIOS, it's likely:
- you changed the OS mode from UEFI to legacy; hence, the laptop won't boot to windows as it's not recognizing the OS on it...that's if only the UEFI option was chosen during its installation.
- you changed the boot mode to probably PXE (network boot mode) or it's the only option ticked and the Windows manager (SSD) isn't ticked. You'd have to move the windows manager up as priority over the PXE if it's (Windows manager) ticked.

Exclusive
As it is, press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart the laptop and immediately it displays the black screen, keep pressing F10 to go to the BIOS to check if your storage is still recognized. If it's still there, on the MAIN tab, reset settings to the default and see if it solves your problem.

You're in the best option to make it known as to how it all happened... What were you doing before it started acting up? Our solutions can be 50-50 helpful till further info is disclosed.

when it says boot device not found, it means the hard disk cannot be detected on the laptop, probably shifted. If you're anywhere in Surulere or Ikeja, i can help you check it out. For free grin

I tried methods 1 and 3 but it didn't work. Couldn't try 2 because I don't know where the battery is. I guess inbuilt. Couldn't try 4 also because I don't have a screwdriver to open the laptop.
The screenshot is the result I got from method 3

Check your computer's settings

You need to make sure the BIOS is looking for the correct boot drive. Most computers have more than one disc, and if the BIOS isn't programmed to load the right drive first, a boot device not found error will occur.

The “Boot Device Not Found” or “No Boot Device Is Detected” error message occurs when the operating system is unable to find the boot sector of the hard drive or the bootable hard disk. Below we have mentioned some possible reasons for the error:

Wrong boot order in BIOS.
Hard disk connection problem.
Outdated or misconfigured BIOS.
Corrupted bootable disk.
Damaged system files or boot files.
Corrupted MBR/boot sector in the BIOS.

SOLUTIONS
Method 1: Change the Boot Order

Ensure that the hard drive you boot from is the right disk. If you set to boot from an unbootable device, it won’t boot and may display the error message:
“Boot Device Not Found. Please install an operating system to your hard disk”.
In such a situation, you can change the boot order in BIOS and let it boot from the bootable device. To do so, follow the below-given steps:

Restart the computer and then press the F10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
After opening the BIOS, go to the boot settings.
Notebook computers: Select Storage > Boot Options.
Desktop computers: Select System Configuration > Boot Options.
Proceed with the on-screen instructions to change the boot order.

Method 2: Perform Hard Reset

When you reset the device, it forces the system to clear and reestablish the software connections between the BIOS and the hardware.
To perform a hard reset, follow the below-listed steps:

Turn off the computer and remove it from any port replicator or docking station.
Then, disconnect all external devices from your computer and unplug the AC adapter.
Remove the battery as well.Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
Then, insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the computer.

Note: Don’t connect any of the peripheral devices, such as USB storage devices, external displays, printers, etc.

Now, turn on the computer.
When the start menu opens, select Start Windows Normally with arrow keys and press Enter.

Method 3: Restore BIOS to Default Settings

It may happen that your system is configured to boot from an unbootable disk.
In such a case, resetting your BIOS restores it to the last saved configuration.
Follow these steps:

Turn off the computer.
Wait for at least 5 seconds and then restart the computer.
Repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
On the BIOS setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
Press F10 to Save and Exit.
Select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes.
Then, follow the prompt to restart the computer.

If the computer restarts normally, it means that issue is fixed. If it still displays the “boot device not found” error message, proceed to the next method.

Method 4: Reconnect your Hard Drive

Reconnecting the hard drive may also help you fix Boot Device Not Found 3F0 error.
Follow the below steps:

Turn off the computer.Remove the power cable and battery.
Disconnect your hard drive and then connect it back.Reassemble your computer and turn it on to see if the error persists or not.

We hope.one of these methods work out for you.
With love from Stella Computer Gurus

If a windows update gets interrupted, it could mess up the laptop, some peripherals may not work well. It's still OK, it's the regular windows update though and not an update you got elsewhere because the last update you need from a 3rd party is a BIOS update which could brick the motherboard and spoil it for good.

If you turn on the laptop, when it gets to the windows homepage, do this:

- ensure you have light and charge the laptop

- if you don't, ensure your laptop has a good battery and it's at 90% minimum because the update takes a lot of time.

- ensure you have enough data (3gb recommended)

- connect to your WiFi

- go to settings, windows update and click on "check update."

- Let the update run from the beginning to the end (always take note that the update has 2 stages; download and install)

- there would be a driver that would tell you "RESTART" after it has downloaded and installed before the others...do not restart the laptop till the last driver downloads and installs

- wait for the last driver to install even when others might be done and saying "pending or pending restart" before you restart the laptop.

- Patience is key and as such when running the update, it'd be best not to do other things like watch a movie on the laptop so as not to drain the battery quickly if you're running the update on battery.

- once the last driver has finished installing, click on the restart you see below the drivers, then the laptop would restart

- never click on the power button when it seems the laptop is in black background, the main update is happening.

- once the automatic update has gotten to 100% and it gets to windows on its own, then you can use the laptop.

BEST IF YOU RUN THE UPDATE OVERNIGHT WHEN THERE'S LIGHT; WISH YOU THE BEST IN YOUR PLIGHT, SIR.

If you're using a Dell laptop, dell support assistant would be your best option to download and run your update as it gives a detailed tip of what your laptop needs to update and fixes some issues...but that being said, it depends on the dell laptop in particular because not all dell laptop can utilize the dell support assistant tool.

My apologies for the long epistle.

Likely your operating system isn't the factory one, and as such, you need to "DISABLE SECURE BOOT" which is below the legacy support you disabled; then use F10 to save and restart the laptop as you can't have secure boot enabled with UEFI if you're using a 3rd party OS.
Re: Boot Device Not Found by FluxEmpire(m): 9:37am On Jul 03, 2022
A RULE OF THUMB WHICH GETS MANY CONFUSED

- Legacy and UEFI are both different OS modes
- Legacy is for old laptop models mostly, UEFI is for recent laptops
- Their user interface are different
- Legacy uses MBR partitioning, while UEFI has GPT partitioning
- You can't select legacy support mode using UEFI options and vice versa
- If your windows was loaded by a 3rd party UEFI mode, ensure that you disable SECURE BOOT because if you don't do so, your laptop won't recognize the OS (Operating System) on it as it's designed to recognize what the manufacturer installed on it.
- Leave secure boot enabled only on Legacy mode...
- It'd be actually good to know if you got your laptop brand new or from a vendor; which is akin to knowing what OS was installed but on a general point to note, you're using a Spectre; that comes with UEFI mode on default. Legacy mode is more like downgrading it and might cause fluctuating issues like missing icons on your taskbar, windows taking time to load..etc

OP. you can't be using the IPV 4 OR IPV 6 or IPV 4 + IPV 6 UEFI mode and still have secure boot enabled if your OS was a 3rd party... It won't boot. It'd likely show you:
- no operating system found
- boot device not found
- direct you back to the BIOS

Like I once told you on the first page, you need to know if your laptop is recognizing your storage device...that should be at the main tab of the BIOS page that displays the RAM size and info of the laptop. Why the OS boot manager is not displaying in the BOOT page is likely due to you leaving the secure boot on ENABLED. Disable secure boot and check, Sir.

Just install a new operating system, you could buy the adulterated ones for N500 (trust me, 75% operating system in PCs used in Nigeria are from this adulterated software)

On that page, locate legacy support, enable it and click on F10 to save.

Then 4 numbers will appear on the screen, press it on your keyboard and click enter.

Now the thing is if your laptop operating system was installed via legacy, it won't boot on UEFI mode,so you have to enable legacy mode.

Now if after this your laptop still can't boot to windows, it's either your operating system is corrupt or your laptop is not seeing the HDD.

To confirm if it recognises the HDD, click on f9,you will see the name of the HDD or SDD depending on the type it is using.
