RIGGING 2023 ELECTION WILL BRING #ENDSARS, #ENDNIGERIA - ASWITU WARNS

The President General of Association of Southwest Igbo Town Unions (ASWITU), Prince Erondu Uche has warned that any plot to rig 2023 general election may result to another #ENDSARS which he said may likely be the end of Nigeria as an entity.

The ASWITU Boss made the remark in Akure while addressing newsmen after a meeting with members of Association of Southwest Igbo Town Unions drawn from all the states in Southwest who came to sympathise with him over the death of ASWITU members who lost their lives in the Owo massacre recently.

Prince Erondu while answering a question bothering on the likely effect of 2023 Presidential election if rigged, said that it might result into a serious crisis which if not properly handled may lead to the disintegration of Nigeria as an entity. "Anyone plotting to rig 2023 Presidential election is playing with fire. The political awareness and participation in Nigeria today catalysed by hunger, insecurity, corruption and bad representation is not to be ignored. The Nigeria masses led by the youths are bent on building a new Nigeria. I see another #ENDSARS, much bigger and terrible, which may finally disintegrate Nigeria as an entity if the 2023 Presidential election is rigged. See how people are registering for permanent voter cards. Some are even spending money to encourage others to get registered. You know ASWITU started the awareness, about one hundred thousand members of ASWITU across Southwest were suspended over non compliance. One of the reports we received in the meeting we just concluded was that more than seventy percent of those suspended have registered and have presented evidence of registration at our state Secretariat across Southwest".

He advised all political parties to do their campaigns, market their candidates and allow Nigerians to choose the best, stating that anything short of this will spell doom for the country. He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free and fair election in 2023.

On his part, Nze Emeka Enwereonye the Secretary General of ASWITU, who led the delegation to Akure the Ondo state capital noted that Prince Erondu's advice is to been taken serious in order to avert this looming trouble. "Prince Erondu Uche I know is not a man you ignore his words. Personally, I don't joke with his words, apart from the fact that he is a political analyst, he has the spirit of God in him. Remember early 2021, he made mention of the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan being lured in 2023 Presidential race. Many disputed it, he went ahead to write an open letter to Jonathan, telling him not accept such offer. Was Jonathan not involved the race?
Do you know the level of betrayal and blackmail the former President might have subjected himself to by allowing himself to be lured into negotiations and consultations of 2023 Presidential election? A greater betrayal would have played out if he had continued according to the word of our leader. For me, INEC should be fair to all political parties". Nze Enwereonye concluded.

The group condemned the attack on Journalists in Lagos and called on Lagos state government to fish out the perpetrators for prosecution.

On choice of the Presidential candidate to be supported by ASWITU, one of the leaders who didn't want his name to be mentioned revealed that the leadership of the party are currently making consultations to that effect and will soon make its position known to the public.

Association of Southwest Igbo Town Unions (ASWITU) is the umbrella body of all Igbo Town Unions, village meetings, associations, clubs, women and youth groups in Southwest Nigeria.
