According to DailyPost, the reason for his alleged resignation is still sketchy.

Though Arise and Channels News Report has it that the CJN has resigned on health grounds.

Recall that the Chief Justice of Nigeria was petitioned in an unprecedented manner last week by the Justices of the apex court, who had jointly accused the Chief Justice of Nigeria of corruption, maladministration and incompetence.

The allegations were denied by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ahuraka Isah, titled, ‘Re: State Of Affairs In The Supreme Court And Demand By Justices Of The Supreme Court’.

On this note, the attention of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) have been drawn and called upon by Civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria to probe the corruption allegations levelled against Justice Tanko Muhammad.

The statement signed by HURIWA National Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko stated that the CJN should step down as Chairman of the NJC for the investigation to be conducted.

Considering the fact that the former CJN, Walter Onnoghen, was removed on a controversial note following allegations against him which were probed by both the NJC and the CCT, the group noted that it will be injustice if the NJC and CCT fails to investigate and subsequently probe the CJN.

Recall that Justice Walter Onnoghen was forced to resign as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), before Justice Tanko Muhammad took over affairs as the CJN.
