The apex Igbo social-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo has rubbished the report about disowning the embattled former senate president, ike Ekweremadu and his wife over the alleged organ harvesting case.

Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested by the Uk Metropolitan Police in London for allegedly facilitating the travel of a younger boy identified as Ukpo Nwanmini to the UK, with the intent to have his organ harvested for his ailing daughter.

In a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, the group said it’s their duty to stand with their own, especially in times of difficulty and it is not in their character to be hasty with statements over issues without insufficient facts.

While expressing concern for the Ekweremadu’s travails, Ohanaeze urged the imposters and pretenders to desist from reckless and unguarded statements that portray the Igbos in a bad light.

The phrase, "Our own" is a product of a hypocritical mind.

Support good people whether they are your own or not. Discourage bad behaviour whether the person is your own or not.

If Ekweremmadu is innocent, every tribe, not only Igbo people or your Ohaneze ndi aru, should stand with him. If he is guilty, let him be treated according to the law.

Our-own mentality is the reason tribal people deny the atrocities of certain politicians and always vote for those politicians. The same mentality is the reason people obstruct justice some times. If you think Ekweremmadu is innocent, just say it and give your reasons. Remove "Our own" from the matter.
