‘Groundbreaking’ MLS move emerges as potential option for free agent Lingard

Major League Soccer has emerged as a potential destination for Jesse Lingard as the free agent considers his next career move.

Lingard is a free agent after leaving Manchester United this summer and has been linked with several Premier League clubs. West Ham – who signed the 29-year-old on loan during the 2020/21 campaign – and Everton are among the sides interested in a deal.

are reporting that Lingard will also consider offers from MLS and he is set to travel to the United States to hold discussions with American clubs.

Two MLS sides are set to make proposals to Lingard and his representatives with the deals described as ‘groundbreaking’.

Lingard made just two Premier League starts last season and his ‘key consideration’ will be regular first-team football, as the England international looks to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the 2022 World Cup in November.

He has earned 32 caps for the Three Lions, but has not featured since October 2021 after falling out of favour at club level.

West Ham are believed to have already submitted a contract offer to Lingard, following the success of his previous loan spell at the London Stadium in which he scored nine goals in just 16 league appearances.
