Is there really going to be a justifiable explanation for data zapping by Nigerian mobile network operators?


More and more subscribers are lodging their complaints concerning how Nigerian "Mobile Network Operators" are zapping their internet data.
Is there any valid explanation they can give? Or how can one possibly explain how a 1gb or 2gb data subscription deplete in just 3-5 days without the use of video content platforms.
Because of course, the blaming finger would quickly point at streaming platforms - But more people are beginning to carry out private investigations, cutting out or disabling streaming platforms just to be sure the culprit is figured out.
However, this doesn't seem to be solving the problem. It has become a norm, that internet subscription is being eaten like there is a monster installed on users devices.
Our team at Kustomers carried out a test with the MTN data service and discovered from multiple test that this is true. At first, we tried the 1gb monthly data plan, and what we noticed was that, it barely lasted 3 days before it stopped working.


Initially, we thought something was wrong with the internet connection from the network provider's end, so we switched off the internet connection multiple times and tried reconnecting, yet it didn't work, then it started redirecting to the mtn page that states that the data has been exhausted.

:: Note :: This data plan wasn't used on a laptop, and all auto app updates were turned off. Nothing was running in the background except the app(s) that we were immediately using. So there is no blame on any background app or any auto updates.

Our second test, we tried a 2gb data plan, still from the mtn network. This time, it also barely served up to 4-5 days. In fact, it's virtually the same 3 days. And this is a 30 days plan!

While this test was carried out on Mtn network, we've noticed that network operators like Airtel also zap up users data plans way too much, more than the normal way it should be.


What we also know is, 9mobile, right from when it was still known as Etisalat has a reputation of zapping internet data subscription like there was some monster involved. At least, Mtn & Airtel used to be fair, well, until they also joined the league.

Now, more users are lodging their complaints about this issue.
You may ask, is Globalcom network exempted? While there are no actual direct complaints by the network subscribers - We can guess why that is. Globalcom network is quite terrible when compared with its connectivity strengths against the others mentioned earlier.


For years now, they have not been able to fix their horrible network connection problems - While it would have been better to invest more money ensuring that the network becomes more stable, they choose to invest more on marketing and in signing ambassadors/influencers to help them paint a better brand image.

Many Globalcom users can attest to the fact that, once the weather changes and it seems like it's going rain, it is either your network connection get cut off, or you find it difficult to call or for people to reach you on your line.
This has been happening since time immemorial, yet nothing has been done to rectify this problem.

Normal normal, EmptyHen and HairTel na bastard when it comes to zapping, I've done an indepth comparative analysis and the red one beat the yellow one hands down when it comes to down.

Location is Sokoto South.

I requested that the speed be increased, so rather than loading at 5mbps (for instance) they upped my speed to 10mbps. They can help you do this when you request - But of course the consequence will be that your data will exhaust faster.

I have always complained about this, all this network providers change of system operation is alarming. How did we get here? You buy any data plan, and you unable to get value of your money. I think the body responsible for checkmating this excesses just gone to bed or dead.

No, they're not sleeping, they're enjoying their bribery. Just as DSTV bribes some lawmakers to allow them run a monopoly pay-TV system yet giving us garbage services, same way Mtn and the likes are bribing them to run the system the way they want.

you not far from the truth, I remember some years ago when Ncc do give all this mno serious tackling but now nothing, its like crooks now run the body. The other day my airtime was zapped without opting for any service, and I sent mtn messages asking for refund, they saying thrash. But back then u lay a simple complain, they look into it and get back to u ASAP. Now they don't give a f**k

Just like the dubious Nig govt, network providers are crooks!
