The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS says foreign investments into Nigeria has declined by 81.46 per cent ($6.91bn) from $8.49bn in the first quarter of 2019 to $1.57bn in the corresponding quarter of 2022.

The bureau disclosed this in its quarterly report on ‘Nigerian Capital Importation’ released on Sunday.

According to the bureau, since the first quarters of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, there has been a steady decline in capital inflows into the nation’s economy.

The report indicates that the total capital inflow into the economy fell by 31.01 per cent from $8.49bn in Q1 2019 to $5.85bn in Q1 2020; it fell by 67.45 per cent to $1.91bn in Q1 2021; and declined further by 17.46 per cent to $1.57bn in Q1 2022.

The report, which segmented foreign investment into three main investment categories: foreign direct investment, portfolio investment, and other investments, further explained that  in Q1, 2019, the largest amount of capital imported into the Nigeria was through portfolio investment.

It also shows that the banking sector  dominated inflows that quarter and the United Kingdom was responsible for most of the inflows.

Similarly, the report shows that in portfolio investments also  dominate inflows Q1 2020, while banking and the UK also retained their respective leadership positions.

‘‘In Q1 2021 and Q1 2022, portfolio investments was responsible for most of the capital inflows into the nation, while banking raked in the highest and the UK provided the most investment.

Thats because we have been disobidient.

Tinubu watched the country economy collapse for 8 years and he did not offer any advise or solution, just because he wants to be president.

Now coming to tell us that he will build on buhari's achievements.

We say NO TO APC.

The rescue team is here.

The whole world is in a deep economic mess. Everyone is feeling it because the world is connected today.

Unfortunately, Nigeria has a president who cannot tell his left from his right, thereby worsening our economic woes.

Blame buhari and tinubu that brought buhari. This is one of the reasons for the skyrocketing of the dollar. Lack of FDI. When you buy things expensive know that buhari and tinubu is responsible for that.

Buhari is on the beat again.

Let me reiterate that we are in this quagmire because we made a wrong choice in 2015 and repeated the mistake in 2019, the result is what is before us. But in our defence in both years we had no better alternative. We were choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea.

But compatriots, come 2023, for the first time in a very long time we have not just a better alternative but the best option. We can not afford to make the same mistake a third time, or else we will carry a wheelbarrow filled with naira notes just to buy one agbado. It will be that bad.

Let's not let this opportunity to revive this dying country pass us by.

Someone invest $20 million dollars this year into Nigeria then takes out $100 million over the next 10 years ...was his impact positive positive or negative on the economy ?

FDI only makes sense if the investor wants to live and spend here

How does that concern the common Nigerian?

If FDI is bad for the economy and you want to reduce it, would it not be wise to boost quality (emphasis on quality) local production first and let FDI die a natural death?

You leave the main issue and you're defending rubbish.

My Nigerian people will not care about this one but if you tell them come and wait for a criminal they will be very happy if Nigerians in America and Europe will start killing themselves for a Nigerian criminal which can do nothing for them. The number one problem with with Nigerians is we are illiterate illiterate. Right now we have 17 in Africa in economical performance. But wants to tell with Nigerian let's vote for a criminal we are happy so that our children can suffer

Wrong. Both FDI and portfolio investments are both very important.

If your country attracts only fly by night investors over the long and short term, it is indicative of malaise in your economy.

Please do not blame the president are people are illiterate with Nigerians are illiterate that is a number one problem you cannot bring you cannot blame person Nigeria leaders Nigerians we only vote for somebody which we destroy them that is their illiteracy. Let me give you a good example the United States of America five years ago Nigerians one number one African in employment number one African in managers employed number two African income and salary what happened next, with Nigerians in America became stupid and illiterate and went to vote for three Nigerian senators to lead us These are the same idiots which destroyed our future in Nigeria and we voted for them to lead us in America What is now happening. Two years later to present day Nigerians in America are ranked number 9 Africa in employment, Nigerians in America are ranked number 13 African in managers employed, we Nigerians in America and number eight African in income what went wrong in this two years. We voted for 3 Idiots in America which destroyed our children's future that is the illiteracy of the Nigerian people wherever they are in the world they want to vote for the person which they vote for we destroy them

Please answer this question of mine we Nigerians in my country we go to we destroy ourselves because we want to vote for a Nigerian piece of s***?...

You will find a Nigerian running to Europe through the Sahara Desert through the Mediterranean admittedly he gets to Europe he wants to vote for an idiot which could not even give him electricity in his village in Nigeria we are illiterate that is a problem. It is high time we stop blaming the government and start blaming the stupid citizens. Citizens which can only destroy themselves because of a few idiots

So within the 10 years, others haven't benefitted?

And if he is "taking it out", wouldn't it mean the company has made enough to stand on their own?

Name a country that grew by FDI that's above 10 million people ...

You grow an economy by supporting local producers to world class ... Germany ,USA ,England ,France , Italy, China , Korea , Taiwan, Vietnam , Pakistan , Israel , Japan ...none grew by FDI
