The clinic days for ENT patients at the Federal Teaching Hospital in my area are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I couldn't walk and was in great pains...I was to see a consultant but was told to 'wait till Monday as Monday was the clinic day for orthopaedic cases'....to add to the absurdity, when Monday came, I was informed that the consultant only sees 3 new cases each Monday!! It sounded so pathetic and ridiculous!!

Sorry about your ordeal. I think you went about it the wrong way. You don't need to see an ENT consultant concerning ear wax problem. Infact, you dont need any referral. You ought to have gone straight to the emergency. There is usually an on-call ent resident that can be called to attend to you.
Impacted ear wax is a minor procedure which even an ent nurse can do.
Though they should have put you through, but typical Nigerian worker, too lazy to understand your plight, just sees a consult addressed to the consultant, and told you to come on their clinic days, without explaining why.
On the other hand, even in advanced countries to see a consultant, you'll have to book an appointment and be put on a waitlist, so this is not peculiar to naija alone.
Finally, if you think you need immediate intervention for the ear wax, go tomorrow to a&e, but this time without a consult. I believe you'll be attended to, except if fth gombe has changed from what I used to know.
