There are clinic days, clinic days don't open everyday for all specialties, and because you are a new patient that requires clerking, (taking a well detailed info), opening the hospital folder, I am telling you they're doing you a favor by asking you to come another time. Just go early.

However, I believe communication between health care workers and patients is very poor, very bad... I detest that also

My wife's ear also got blocked with was some years ago.

What I did was to use warm water to soak the wax and eventually it melted and came out.

You can try it at home but you have to be patient till the wax melts off.

Sorry bro.
There are clinic days in Federal government hospitals across the country.

The clinic days for ENT patients at the Federal Teaching Hospital in my area are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

my worry is this: the idea of 'clinic days' as practiced in government hospitals across the country, is it a global standard practice?? I ask because I feel it is not right! Early January this year, I had an accident that affected my right foot. I couldn't walk and was in great pains...I was to see a consultant but was told to 'wait till Monday as Monday was the clinic day for orthopaedic cases'....to add to the absurdity, when Monday came, I was informed that the consultant only sees 3 new cases each Monday!! It sounded so pathetic and ridiculous!!

Using of Cotton buds to clean the ear is not advisable at all.

And please don't be sad.

So sorry about your experience. The usual thing is to go to the emergency ward where you would be attended to by the orthopaedic team on call. If the residents can't immediately sort you out, they'd contact the unit consultant. Once your immediate symptoms are resolved, you'd now be referred to the outpatient clinic for definitive management.

If your case requires an admission, after stabilization, you'd be transferred to the ward from the A&E. If this happens, you'd be seen during the next consultant ward rounds.

Clinics don't run daily minus GOPD. I am not familiar with the practice in the west, but I doubt you'd make a different finding there.

Hope you're OK now though.

You are 100% correct.
I believe people with emergencies should be prioritized.
Heaven will not fall if these consultants see patients on a daily basis or worst case 3 to 4 days in a week because these government hospitals are the only hope of the average Nigerian when it comes to affordable healthcare.

"In your own wisdom you went to a federal hospital," why didn't same wisdom tell you to clean your ears? Always following after experts. You think those making cotton buds for years are fools right?

Sorry about your ordeal. I think you went about it the wrong way. You don't need to see an ENT consultant concerning ear wax problem. Infact, you dont need any referral. You ought to have gone straight to the emergency. There is usually an on-call ent resident that can be called to attend to you.
Impacted ear wax is a minor procedure which even an ent nurse can do.
Though they should have put you through, but typical Nigerian worker, too lazy to understand your plight, just sees a consult addressed to the consultant, and told you to come on their clinic days, without explaining why.
On the other hand, even in advanced countries to see a consultant, you'll have to book an appointment and be put on a waitlist, so this is not peculiar to naija alone.
Finally, if you think you need immediate intervention for the ear wax, go tomorrow to a&e, but this time without a consult. I believe you'll be attended to, except if fth gombe has changed from what I used to know.

Public institutions in Nigeria are the worst in the world in terms of irresponsibility, even private institutions like banks are now joining them. Imagine some bankers nowadays behaving as if they are doing you a favour by attending to you.
