Virtually ANYONE can own equity in electricity utility companies or any other technical companies, regardless of such owners’ technical qualifications or knowledge (or lack thereof). In the US and several advanced economies, equity of most of these companies are controlled by PE funds, VCs, pension funds, etc., not by engineers or other technical folks. Even Dangote owns the most successful cement company operating across several African nations without being an engineer. Equity owners primarily provide capital, not (necessarily) operational expertise.

Meanwhile, the GENCOs generate MORE electricity than the TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria), owned 100% and solely operated by the federal government presided over by Buhari, has the ability to transmit, leaving an average of about 2000MW of generated electricity “stranded” everyday. The primary issue with electricity in Nigeria is principally at the distribution level, where the federal government owns 40% of the DISCOs, controls regulation through NERC and has refused to allow the cost-reflective tariffs promise pre-privatization and was a VITAL premise of the BUSINESS CASE for the privatization. The result is that DISCOs continue to be FORCED to sell electric power at BELOW production costs (an average of N38kw/h tariffs for electric power produced at an average cost of N58kw/h), which even your roadside Buka or Akara seller understands is not a sustainable business model. The outcome is that DISCOs are unable to fully pay GENCOs, who are unable to fully pay gas producers/suppliers and who in turn are dis-incentivize to invest in more gas production and stop flaring.

You are the one with a short memory. During Jonathan's era power was way better than what we have today and I use to buy 100 units for N1000. Today with the poor power situation we pay N1000 for 20 units and you are here talking balderdash. Suffer no dey tire you? Leave Obi alone. If you have a problem then face Buhari. Actually, the guy you quoted is right.

The 40mw was what was available for transmission during the recent grid collapse. Grid collapse allows some power to be tansmitted...not all the power...plus it was what was available[sup][/sup] for transmission to the AEDC zone (fct, nassarawa, kogi, niger, some parts of Kaduna state.).

If 40 mw was all we were generating...the whole country won't have had light for 23 hours a day, with most parts not even getting any power at all.

At the moment, with the transmission working. we have about 3000-5000 MW for transmission(I've seen a figure of 7000MW), while our installed capacity...(this is where the guy you quoted now gets it wrong)...is around 12322 MW. The reason why we do not get 12322 mw daily is because of the awful transmission system mainly (we also export a bit of the power)

Even then we need something like 50000mw before we can start talking of 24 hours light. Lagos alone...the city not the state, needs 10000mw daily for 24/7 light..if not more.

You don't want agbado, you don't want Obi, you don't want Atiku; let Buhari continue naa!
