Atiku was so wrong when he said that: “More Than 90% of Northerners doesn't have access to Social Media” .. That was a BLATANT LIE.!! .. .. Available data suggests that more than 58.62% of Northerners are active Internet Subscribers as at 2021... .. Thus, why would such number be active Internet Subscribers in the North, and yet they are not using their Internet for Social Media.?? Can it ever be possible?? .. .. Sources... Even though many of use believe that Atiku exaggerated or was just being mischievous, you guys need to cut that man some slack. You see, we live in a country where even the president doesn't even know the actual population of the country. Buhari is like a father who doesn't know the number of kids he has, but he doesn't have a problem with making decisions for them. No serious country runs on population assumption (with demographics), not protecting its borders and having a national identity for its citizens. You need this for nation planning. Until we get those right, nobody has the right to haul Atiku over the coals. 1 Like |

Saying that 90% of Northerners are not on social media is of course an exageration. There is an overwhelming population of young Arewas on Twitter, Facebook, Tiktok and even here on Nairaland. If he had said 90% of the much older generation, I maybe would have agreed. Besides such is not far from what is obtainable in other part of the country. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Anyone who thinks or believes that a whopping 90% of Northerners do not have access to the internet has less brains than a scarecrow; and most importantly, Atiku never said that. What he said was 90% of northerners are not in tune with social media. In other words, most northerners at the grassroot are more focused on actual news and other web resources as opposed to camping on social media to push trends, spread, swallow and be swayed by propaganda and fake news like the labourers. It’s BBC/VOA online over Twitter anyday for the grassroot northerner. It’s very common to see them listening to news using the BBC Hausa apps on their smartphones. The only exception here are chat platforms which are used quite heavily. Was it not on a WhatsApp group that the unfortunate Deborah issue in Sokoto started? The statement was deliberately skewed by bitter zombidients that felt sore after Atiku reminded them that their structureless party’s reliance on social media likes, retweets and propaganda is electorally useless as the Osun election clearly proved. 1 Like 2 Shares

Some people here are claiming to be more northern than Atiku. Lol. Is access to Internet same thing as being active on social media? I know many northerners who have Android phones but are not on social media. Some of them have,sadly, been brainwashed to by some clerics to believe that social media is evil and a means of corruption, etc. That majority of northern voting population are not on social media is a FACT. There is no need wasting time fighting over it. As a responsible politician, all u need to do is to find a way to reach out to such people instead of masturbating over Atiku's comment. |
