It seems On every social media platform you hop on now, everybody is talking about tech and coding, how it's a quick way to financial freedom, earning in dollars, work from home and all that soft life. You'll begin to see comments of people yelling teach me, teach me, show me the way, I'm really interested in this programming thing (LOL ) undecided and all these comments from desperate people whom I'm sure don't even have the passion for the field, just hoping it gives them big bucks, thinking because you don't need a degree to be a programmer it'll be a breeze... And most of you devs are not even making matters any better, you keep on making this field look cheap and very soon, programming is going to get casted and over saturated... The case of 10k web developers is still much abound and very, very, soon, it's gonna get even worse, half baked programmers go soon full everywhere, potentially causing difficulties for programmers who took lots and lots of time to perfect their skill
It's becoming discouraging for people like me who are just freshers into the field, and don't get me wrong, I'm a computer science student and programming is not something I developed love for just because of what I read online, non of that stuff. The love for programming has been there

You are spot on.

There are a lot of half baked cookies everywhere. I still see myself as being half baked too which is why learning never stops.

The number of coders is not the problem. The 'get-job' mentality is the problem.

A lot of people learn programming just to get a job. When my startup grows to a level where I can afford 15 programmers, I would employ them.

However, I see their approach as being shallow minded.

It's like teaching a man how to cultivate a farm and he keeps looking for farms to employ him instead of starting his own farm.

You have tools. Nigeria is filled with problems. Use your tools to provide solutions. (Please not finch again sha).

keep creating solutions even if you fail. One day, you would create something like Figma or Spotify.

That's the mindset we should have...Not the Wordpress bandwagon of N10k for full website including hosting.

PS: Instead of me to build any website less than 100k, I would rather watch Netflix with my time.

The one way day pain me pass Na "TECH" ok which tech? They no go talk. Which obviously shows that they don't know what they talking about.

TECH is too verbose for a Software Engineer or Developer to give you as an answer to what they do it even sounds cheap.

Even Yahoo Yahoo self Na Tech

My dear, if your interest is love for programming, no problem. Some others are motivated by money, me inclusive. Remove money, you would never see me near it. Do you know what is programming? How tough and stressful it is. You even loose your social life and become a recluse. Is that what I will do for love? I want to drive big cars and live in big houses. Anything that would make me achieve that I will go for it albeit legally.

Do not be mean people for their life choices. Nigeria is extremely tough and people have to survive. Remove money from programming and I have dropped it today. You need to earn a living to pay for your own existence in this wicked capitalist world.

There are people that get paid directly and indirectly to encourage people to learn programming and many of them lie to do that.

It's just like what motivational speakers do, Twitter is especially notorious for that.

You see things like:

Learn programming in 60 days and get a job.

Day 1 - 5: HTML
Day 6 - 10: CSS
Day 11 - 20: Javascript
Day 21 - 40: React
Day 41 - 45: Build a Todo app
Day 46 - 50: Build a weather app
Day 50 - 60: Get a job

Sadly, this is what a lot of people want to believe.

You also need to understand that it's the internet, some of these people are fraud, especially on Twitter.

1. Invaluable professions always have a truckload of candidates gravitating towards them. They are invaluable because of their constantly improving ways of proffering solutions.

2. Secondary school science students are all clamoring to study medicine because medicine is valuable. Humans need help whether in a good or bad state of health.

3. It is the ability to manipulate your skills and used them in a known/unknown area that makes any profession valuable. That's how scientists are begotten. Ergo, IT/Computer science.

4. Now there are various fields of medical science/medicine, and no matter how small the category you find yourself in, given eternity, you cannot be able to decipher that area. Take for example Dermatology, Ophthalmology, and Paediatrics. No human brain can completely decipher all the intricacies of the skin, eye, and child. What about the brain itself?

5. As far as a sample material is ready, humans, in this case, medical professionals will never become bored with their profession nor will a rise of medical students and schools leads to its obsolescence. Medicine has been for centuries and still improving.

6. Another good example is agriculture. The food marketplace shows you that even if many women sell the same commodity daily, there will be at least 1 customer for each seller daily.

Farmers will always be in the field as a result of subsistence or commercial agriculture. In as much as you have the basic skills and knowledge involved in crop or animal husbandry, the population of other farmers will not scare you.

Here again, humans are profitable playgrounds. As the human population increases, the need for more food increases. Farmers can then tend to diversify into sophisticated forms of agriculture.

Where agriculture, medical science, etc. don't function as they ought to, know that there is a serious and damaging problem lurking behind thereby stopping their progress.

7. The aforementioned reason is why the TECH FIELD WILL EVER REMAIN VALUABLE. Like Medicine, it comprises a lot of subset fields.

You can manipulate your tech skills to your advantage in as much as you know the basics and prerequisites. Science and Technology are just in their juvenile state, there is more to see and experience. Unfortunately, many of us will never live to see the wonders of it.

Even if the total human population decides to niche in TECH FIELD, there will still be enough space for our ancestors and future generations. TECH FIELD is like the sky, it spans worldwide.

8. You think saturation will weaken TECH FIELD because you have not seen the power of science and technology. I read a headline post yesterday about a 74-year-old man who regained his sight after being blind for years. A surgical operation was carried out by some Israeli doctors. Without Tech, do you think it would have been possible?

TECH spans all fields: medicine, pharmacy, agriculture, accounting, politics, gaming, marketing, journalism, etc. It is an unstoppable force.

9. Tech is gaining momentum at the moment because of the monetary benefits. It appeals to citizens of undeveloped or third world nations most especially because it is a good escape route out of poverty. It is not their fault. It is reasonable.

Due to its recent popularity, many people think that they can do it. Con men have even taken advantage of these people's gullibility.

10. Despite its invaluableness, TECH FIELD IS HARD! Not only hard, it only requires individuals with HIGH IQ.

You are even bothered about saturation, you fail to see that it is a result of the effect of social media. Of 100 students that started in any TECH field, less than 20 make it to the finish line. The ALX program is a good example, where only <2000/20000 candidates get to the last lap. However, it is these few successful people that broadcast it on social media and make it seems easy.

IQ is the most deciding factor in this case.

Other deciding factors: health, residence, daily activities, economic status, geographical affairs, etc.

With a low IQ, the only way to meet up is to consciously deliberate tough consistency, and be persistent. If you are determined enough, passionate about it, love it, and accrue more knowledge you'll go far.

11. Whether for money, passion, or long-time ambition, go for the field that pleases you. With the necessary skills and knowledge, you will achieve whatever are your purposes.

Lastly, go for invaluable fields that can appeal to human needs. It takes time, life, energy, and hope. It was never made to be easy.

Thanks.

Absolutely, na clout. Next thing you see them open a channel or academy, which are obviously cheaper ways to get money.

Some may even come like angles to do giveaway (some are genuine) but majority na clout.

OP know this and have peace. Find your own way to make money or clout. Na survival.

Are you afraid of being put out of job by the incoming hoard? Well up skill then, rather than forcing everyone to become gatekeepers because you feel threatened.
There will always be mass migration into seemingly profitable careers.
Ask the oil and gas sector and banking sectors.

Tech is about to get subsidised badly.

Why do you think Google and big tech are advocating for more Devs?

More Devs means more competition and smaller salaries and nobody can do anything because to become a big tech company right now is next to impossible. It's just like BTC, it's to late to become rich from it in 2022

It’s a reality we must all face. Most experienced devs always remark on how crazy it is to get entry level jobs these days compared to a few years. One dev on LinkedIn said that he landed his first role after about 2 months of learning vue. He was given a test to build a todo list and that was how he got in.
Compare that to these days where you have newbies building full stack apps yet not qualified for entry level jobs.
But innovation drives tech, which in turn drives innovation. This current situation is but a mere valley I’m sure.
Tech will continue to innovate and then create more jobs.

One thing I know for sure is that programming can never be saturated I repeat can't be saturated people will rather abandoned it to go to another field.
Gather 10 people today buy each of them a laptop and data to learn programming, give them 1 year you will be surprised that hardly 2 people will still continue learning it.
Programming is a life long learning career you must sacrifice some things you really enjoy.

That's why I always tell people not to jump into anything blindly cause of everyone is talking about it.

It just make me remember how science class were in secondary school. Everyone wants to be an engineer, doctor, etc. When they got to the uni and polys they start feeling overwhelmed with big calculations and concepts.

lol! They would give them one wuruwuru certificate and call them "Full Stack Developer" lol! I spent nothing less than 6 months on native JS, and you always have things to learn. What I had to face recently was from this funny "developer" who was ready to take on a project for 50k when I already gave the client a reasonable price. Uncle 50k went on to publish a 100% bootstrap website with no backend. The client came back to meet him and I charged him twice what I initially asked. People do not want to understand that this thing is a process.
