Palm oil is one of the most versatile food products available for consumption in nearly every African home. It's used in meals preparations as it is also used as an ingredient in margarine, ice cream and foods in those categories.

Palm oil, and red palm oil in particular, is made from the fruit of the African oil palm. While this substance has been used by us for thousands of years, the production and consumption of palm oil seem to have spiralled beyond proportion over the past few decades as demand for the rich commodity keeps heightening.

This has led to a rather increasing presence of adulterated red palm oil in our choicest markets, and consequently a consumption of products with poor nutritional value.

The way forward is to figure out which red palm oil is the real one, and going for it.

A few tips to identify the real red palm oil is:
1. Check the color. It should have a more dark reddish than light reddish color.
2. It should give a pleasant natural scent when smelled.
3. It should make your food taste sweeter naturally whenever they are used for cooking.
