Breaking News!!! See 8 Largest Ethnic Groups In Nigeria!!! by 666Advocate: 8:49am On Aug 09, 2022
I saw this all over the internet concerning largest Nigerian Tribes.

Truth be told, Igbos are not larger than Ijaws in population.
You see Ijaw everyday but they dont carry it on their heads . Reason Ijaw controls the whole Niger Delta the way they like and all Niger Delta groups cry out saying Ijaw marginalize them and lord it over them.
Only Cross river state have over 15 tribes Akwa-Ibom have 5.
Where Ijaw occupy in the Niger Delta is as big as Igboland.
Ijaws are in more than six states and all Ijaw areas share perfect boundaries with each other but were unjustly balkanized into more than six states.

8 Largest Ethnic Groups In Nigeria

Nigeria has been referred to as "The Giant of Africa," due to the large population and distinct economic achievements in comparison to countries that surround this land. Nigeria is found in West Africa and borders Benin, Chad, Cameroon, and Niger. Nigeria is a fascinating country; in the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, there are over 500 ethnic groups and over 500 languages spoken! Explore the eight largest ethnic groups in Nigeria below:

Hausa

The Hausa are the biggest ethnic group in Nigeria. With estimates of their population reaching 67 million, Hausa make up approximately 25% of the Nigerian population. The Hausa culture is homogenized, meaning, throughout Nigeria, the Hausa culture is extremely similar. Hausa are known for raising cattle and other stock, growing crops and trading. Hausa are also recognized for practicing Islam as their main religion. Being the largest ethnic group in Nigeria, Hausa have always been some of the main players in Nigerian politics since Nigeria was granted independence from Britain in 1960.

Yoruba

Individuals who designate themselves as Yoruba make up approximately 19% of the population of Nigeria, making them the second biggest ethnic group in the country. Yoruba are usually identified as Christian or Muslim, although a lot of Yoruba still uphold traditional aspects of their ancestors' religious practices and beliefs. This ethnic group upholds many cultural traditions, including music and culture festivals, traditional Yoruba art, and conventional architecture. The Yoruba culture has historically relied on large populations in a centralized location and an Oba (King).

Igbo

The Igbo people of Nigeria make up approximately 17% of the population. They have long been opposed to Sharia law in Nigeria, with most Igbo identifying as Christian. Igbo society, unlike the Hausa and Yoruba, is non-hierarchical and not reliant on a centralized society. The Igbo are an essential part of the oil trade in Nigeria's southeastern region. In 1967, Igbo fought with the Nigerian government to achieve independence. This was a two and a half year battle in which Igbo people were subjected to brutal conditions, many starving to death during this time. Since this war, Igbo have been reintegrated into Nigerian society; a lot Igbo still feel marginalized by the status quo in Nigeria.

Ijaw

The Ijaw live in the Niger River Delta area of Nigeria and constitute around 14% of the population of the country. The Ijaw have historically had tensions with the rest of the Nigerian population. The lands in which the Ijaw inhabit are extremely oil-rich. This is bittersweet for the Ijaw people, as oil exploration has subjected their land to ecological vulnerability. Mismanagement of these oil revenues has kept a substantial amount of the wealth from returning to the Ijaw community. Goodluck Jonathon, the Prime Minister of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 identifies as an Ijaw, and his election to the highest office in Nigeria was a proud moment for Ijaw people.

Kanuri

The Kanuri people are found in northeastern Nigeria. Their population is believed to be around 4% of Nigeria (approximately 4,000,000). The regions in which Kanuri live are largely impractical for outsiders to reach. Kanuri people are predominately Sunni Muslims. Boko Haram, an Islamist insurgent group in the North of Nigeria, are mostly of Kanuri descent. This group seeks to express many of the Kanuri grievances towards the Nigerian government. Although the Kanuri culture is rich with tradition, Boko Haram are using their lands as a base for operations, and innocent Kanuri people have been subjected to violence and Sharia law.

Fulani

Since the Fulani War (1804-1808), the Fulani people have been intertwined with the Hausa of Nigeria. This is largely due to intermarriage and Fulani living among the Hausa population. Fulani and Hausa together make up approximately 29% of the population of Nigeria. Fulani adopted Islam early, and a large section of the Fulani people are recognized as excellent Islamic clerics. Along with the Hausa, Fulani people have also been a dominant presence in the sphere of Nigerian politics since independence in 1960.

Ibibio

The Ibibio, mostly found in southeastern Nigeria, have a rich oral history passed down through generations. These people have lived in this part of Nigeria for several hundred years. This ethnic group numbers approximately 4.5 million which is equivalent to 3.5% of the population of Nigeria. Ibibio people in the region also inquired (with the British Crown) to become their own sovereign nation within Nigeria (pre-independence). Today, Ibibio predominantly identify themselves as Christian. Ibibio has an amazing artistic culture, most known for creating intricate wooden masks and carvings.

Tiv

The ethnic group known as Tiv are well known for their agricultural produce and the trading of this produce. This is one of the only sources of income for the group. The Tiv people all trace their ancestry back to an ancient individual also named Tiv, who had two sons. Some Tiv people identify as Christians, even less as Muslim. The traditional religion of Tiv, based on manipulations of forces by humans who have been entrusted by a creator God, remains strong within the Tiv populace. Tiv only make up 3.5% of the Nigerian population, making them one of the smaller ethnic groups within the country.

Other Ethnic Groups In Nigeria

The remaining ethnic groups in Nigeria make up 12% of the Nigerian population. These groups include Ebira, Edo, Gwari, Jukun, and Igala, to name a few. The middle belt of Nigeria is well known for its diversity, with many of these remaining groups living in this part of the country. Although Nigeria is rich in her diverse ethnicity, many of these groups mentioned above live segregated from others. Most ethnic groups in Nigeria have formed illegal vigilante or militia groups, protecting their interests from other groups within the country.

Keep fooling yourself with your cooked numbers. This is how you guys allocate fake numbers to your favoured areas in other to prepare the ground for gerrymandering and ofcourse vote riggings. You have never had any serious census in Nigeria yet you are so sure of how you have more numbers than others..

If you're very sure of your data, you won't be changing from one moniker to the other as you shout yourself hoarse over that.. You seem desperate to impose your view, unfortunately for you, not everyone is as dense as you would like.. Surprised you didn't say that ijaw is bigger than the Igbo as you always claim

Igbos are more than Hausas but you won’t know that.

Should I tell you how you would know? In all the states of Nigeria, apart from the indigenes the igbos are more. In all the states in Nigeria, all without exception.

There is no country in the world that you won’t find an igbo man. No country in the entire world.

There are more Igbos outside ala igbo than inside.

I can go on and on… but I believe you get the poin

I have just two questions for the OP which will answer the Ijaw population question once and for all. They are;
1. Between Bayelsa and Rivers State, which of them have more Ijaw population?
2. Outside these two states, is there any state with Ijaw having up to 4 LGAs in the whole Nigeria?
Answering these two questions alone will unravel the Ijaw population for everyone to understand.
Ijaws are not up to 5 million in population yet they are busy measuring dick with their greatgrandfathers.

Mr man Igbos are not larger than Ijaw. Stop deceiving yourself with your false population figure.
They dont cross ❌ creeks to count Ijaws.
They do it by proxy.
Most people sent to count Ijaw are not Ijaws and are afraid to cross ❌ creeks and know Ijaw more.
Igbos are not larger than Ijaws.

You can't answer my questions because they will expose your crude mathematics and naivety.
The whole Bayelsa is less than 3 million in population and still it is not an exclusive Ijaw state. Ijaws only are exclusive to 4 LGAs while the remaining 4, they share with others.
In Rivers State, there are more Igbo LGAs and population by far than that of Ijaws. Ahoada West, Abua/Odual and Andoni are not Ijaw LGAs just like the 4 Ogoni LGAs. Ogu/Bolo, Bonny and Opobo LGAs are shared between Igbo and Ijaw. How then can someone claim a huge population for Ijaws? It can't be substantiated. The creeks just like the desert doesn't support a huge population owing to the terrain. Just a quick search through Google maps will expose the scanty population of your creeks in down Southern Ijaw and similar LGAs. You're discussing with a person far exposed than you.
Even the Kalabari and Okrika are a mixture of Igbos and Ijaws including other ethnicities of the central Delta which you Ijaws expropriated after Igbos lost ground after the war.
Alagoa- the foremost Ijaw historian already provided of Ijaw areas in his first book. The map of Ijaw areas is in that book. You can continue to catch cruise on nairaland anyway.

When you analyse the OPs messages and previous threads, you'll realize that his focal point has been on Ndigbo. He's somewhat obsessed by us and craves our attention so much that he doesn't care to appear insane just to get to chat with us.
For someone to claim Ijaw is the same population as Igbo even when just one Igbo state has more population and LGAs than the whole Ijaw areas listed all over Nigeria shows nothing but crass stupidity. Imo state has 27 LGAs and currently is over 6 million. Add all the Ijaw LGAs in Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta and even pockets of their communities in Edo and Ondo. They still won't get up to that LGA and population yet the urchin is here running his mouth. One can see that his mentality is definitely called to question over his claims.
I just wanted to set the records straight.

The 4th largest ethnic group in Nigeria is the Calabar people if you combine the Ibibio people you just mentioned with Annang people of Akwa Ibom and Efik people of Cross River state together because they speak the same language and hear each other only different dialect and tonation. I don't know why they're so divisive. The only member of their language family that they can't hear is the Oro language.

Finima is the only community claiming Ijaw, and they make up only 1 ward. Bonny has 12 wards and 34 Family houses.
Finima houses only 3 family house.
The Jumbo(the largest house in Bonny) family is even dealing with them recently and sending further down the Atlantic Ocean..
