Fire on Tuesday gutted Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) injection substation in Idumagbo, Lagos Island.

Godwin Idemudia, General Manager, Corporate Communications EKEDC in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, said electricity supply to customers in Idumagbo and Ajele areas have been affected as a result of the fire outbreak.

He said the incident happened at 3pm when one of the 15MVA power transformers inside the substation caught fire.

Part of the statement read: “This is to inform our dear customers in Lagos Island that a 15MVA power transformer at our New Idumagbo Injection Substation caught fire at 3pm on Tuesday.

“We’ll like to thank the firefighters who quickly responded to our call and arrested the situation to prevent the spread of the fire and further damage.”

Idemudia noted that the DisCo’s technical and safety teams are investigating and assessing the situation to determine the cause of the fire.

He urged customers affected by the fire outbreak to bear with them, adding that arrangements are being made to restore power to them from another source.

So I recently learnt that there are mobile transformers. We could deploy that in situations as this to continue the supply of power, while the 15MVA transformer issue Is resolved

Do you know how much an 11kva power transformer cost not to talk of the days of outage where customers won't be able to use supply. Yes 200million or more was and will be lost due to this inferno
