The Natural Family Planning Blueprint: Beginner's Guide To Natural Family Planning For Nigerian Women And Married Couples

Training on effective do-it-yourself natural family planning methods that can help women and married couples either achieve or postpone pregnancy.

What is Natural Family Planning?

Natural Family Planning (NFP) is the general title for the scientific, natural, and moral methods of family planning that can help married couples either achieve or postpone pregnancy.

NFP methods are based on the observation of the naturally occurring signs and symptoms of the fertile and infertile phases of a woman’s menstrual cycle.

No drugs, devices, or surgical procedures are used to avoid pregnancy.

Since the methods of NFP respect the love-giving (unitive) and life-giving (procreative) nature of the conjugal act, they support God’s design for married love!

Natural Family Planning or NFP is the term for the methods of observing and recording the signs of a woman’s fertility throughout the menstrual cycle.

Couples can use this information to change behaviours to either avoid or achieve pregnancy.

NFP can sometimes be referred to as a FABM or Fertility Awareness Based Method of avoiding pregnancy.

There are many different methods of NFP including:

✔️ The Marquette Method

✔️ The Creighton Model

✔️ The Billings’ Method

✔️ The Symptothermal Method

and more!

It respects the design of married love, and honours the total gift of self, keeping the marital act both unitive (love-giving) and life-giving (procreative).

There are no side effects, it’s effective and generally affordable.

It does require sacrificial love, but guess what, we are REAL couples who actually use it and are JOYFUL!

Yes, we are a married couple living this reality.

We want to help you achieve the same results!

Natural Family Planning Vs Artificial Family Planning

The world is already teeming with people today. Some countries have reached overpopulation and could not almost feed all the mouths of their countrymen.

Overpopulation is now considered an international crisis, and it is not only the job of the government to taper the overgrowth.

As healthcare providers, we must be able to educate our clients on the methods of family planning that can immensely help the world control the population.

Contraceptives are products used to prevent pregnancy by women and men.

Each individual has their own choice in what contraceptive they want to use.

Natural Family Planning Method
The natural family planning methods do not include any chemical or foreign substances introduced into the human body.

Most people who are very conscious of their religious beliefs are more inclined to use the natural way of birth control.

Some want to use natural methods because it is cheaper.

Artificial Family Planning Or Hormonal Contraception Method
This is the artificial process used to prevent pregnancy and plan for children’s birth.

Today there are many diverse methods of artificial birth control available on the worldwide market.

The most commonly used method still comes in pill form.

These hormonal contraceptives are effective through manipulation of the hormones that directly affect the normal menstrual cycle so that ovulation would not occur.

These mechanisms are made up of six methods of artificial family planning.

These include two hormonal methods (oral contraceptive pills and Depo-Provera), the intrauterine device, two barrier methods (the latex condom and the diaphragm), and sterilization (tubal ligation and vasectomy).

Artificial family planning is expensive and has side effects.

Why Natural Family Planning is Better Than Artificial Family Planning

1. The natural family planning Method is completely safe with no harmful side effects.

2. The natural family planning Method is simple to learn and follow. It does not distort the marital act nor involve distasteful procedures. The spouses do nothing to their bodies but simply plan their marital relations according to the fertile and infertile days of the woman’s cycle.

3. When used to postpone pregnancy, the natural family planning Method is more effective (98-99%) than any artificial method of birth control, but without the physical, psychological and spiritual side effects.

4. The natural family planning method costs nothing more than the modest price of simple learning materials.

5. With the natural family planning Method, the woman is able to know herself, she learns to appreciate the normal processes of her own body.

6. Using the natural family planning Method enables the woman to accept and respect the gift of her fertility from the beginning to the end of her reproductive years.

7. Natural family planning can be used to achieve as well as postpone a pregnancy. It is immediately reversible when the couple changes their decision
to achieve or postpone pregnancy.

8. Natural family planning Method is acceptable to people of all cultures, educational and social levels and religions. The spouses can use this natural method with a clear conscience. This method, when used generously and not for selfish or materialistic reasons, respects life and the privilege of transmitting life.

9. Studies confirm that the divorce rate is dramatically low among couples who practice Natural Family Planning.

1. Every artificial birth control method involves medical risk. Therefore, it places a healthy woman at risk.

2. Artificial birth control involves ingesting dangerous drugs or using intrusive devices.

3. The more effective the artificial method, the more dangerous it is, e.g., the Pill, the Patch, Nuva-ring, Depo-Provera injection, Implants, Intrauterine Devices, etc.

4. Artificial birth control involves a continual expense.

5. Often artificial methods of birth control are used blindly without the woman knowing how they are affecting her body.

6. The use of artificial methods of birth control suppresses the normal, healthy functions of the human reproductive system.

7. Prolonged use of artificial birth control sometimes results in infertility. For example, the Pill causes 150 chemical changes in the woman’s body.

8. The level of discontent and the discontinuation rate of most artificial birth control methods is extremely high in many countries, especially in the Third World.

The use of artificial birth control is unacceptable to many religious and cultural traditions because it involves a direct attack on the transmission of life.

In addition, certain artificial birth control methods such as the Pill, the Patch, Nuva-ring, Depo-Provera injection, Implants, and Intrauterine Devices do not always prevent conception.

Instead, they can cause a very early abortion a few days later by preventing the newly conceived human person from implanting in the womb. Therefore they act as abortifacients.

9. The divorce rate among couples who use artificial birth control is much higher.
