Did You Know That? In pre-colonial Igbo societies, yam are seen as men's crops, while cocoyam and cassava are seen as women's crops. Yam is the staple food crop in Igbo land. Njọkụ is the deity in charge of yam in Igbo land. Successful yam farmers are called Di ji, Ezeji, etc. Yam is revered in Igbo land. Ndi Igbo annually celebrate New Yam festivals (Iri Ji Ọfụụ/Ifejiọkụ) in thanksgiving to Njọkụ or Ajọkụ, the yam deity. Credits= Igbo History Cc. Richiez Olawalebabs
