The expanded season of the 2022 Merrybet5Stars Premier League which kicked off on June 11, 2022 in Abuja saw 12 Strong emerge champions in the regional final.

The Merrybet5Stars Premier League train moved to Lagos, and it's Press Conference which held at Four Points hotel, Victoria Island on 6th of August 2022 was fully packed with stakeholders, teams and media in the nation’s football industry. It was a gathering of notable names in grassroots football scenes.

The event was ostentatious as speakers shed light on the growth and profitability of grassroots football in Nigeria and beyond. The dignitaries also gave insight on the relevance of grassroots football to youth development programs of the nation. They complimented the efforts and devotion of Merrybet Gold Limited and 5Star Football towards the development of football and sports talents in Nigeria and beyond.

The conference also provided an outline of various kind of challenges hindering the growth of grassroots football in Nigeria and the possible ways to come out of it.

The draw ceremony conducted saw twenty teams divided into the island and mainland conferences with eight teams expected to emerge into the knockout stages.

The Lagos regional phase of the 2022 Merrybet5Stars Premier League kicked off on August 13, 2022 at Meadow Hall School Pitch, Alma Beach Way, Lekki, Lagos.
