Biography Of Late Madam Alice Folake Tanimola (mama Idowu) 1939–2022 by NationalReports: 8:06pm On Sep 05, 2022
Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and forever dear. Their presence is strong, and their fragrances can be felt, for sweet and fond are the memories of our loved and righteously departed soul.

Madam Alice Folake Tanimola who slept in the Lord on the 19th of May 2022, was born to the family of late Pa. James and Madam Ruth Tanimola of Odo-Akodi Quarters, Ekinrin- Adde in 1939.

Although Mama was not enrolled in the four walls of western education, she was a renowned businesswoman until her glorious home calling to the great beyond!

Mama started her early life helping her mother, late madam Ruth in her business. Her mother was majorly into the weaving of clothes popularly called “Aso ofi’. Grandma became an apprentice under her mother, learning the skill of weaving and selling clothes in the market. Her mother was so popular in the business, although her mother was not only weaving clothes to earn a living, she was also into plaiting of hair [Hairdressing] and selling ‘ponmo’ [Cowhide]. All these are what grandma learnt and what she did to raise her children.

After the death of her mother, mama took over the business and expanded it. As time goes on and as the economy opens up, mama saw the need to diversify to other businesses, one of them is the sales of frozen food. At this point, all her children have grown up and gotten married, so mama was left with some of her grandchildren who were young and could help her in the marketing of her new business. Another business Mama diversified to, was selling pap [akamu] at the time she sold frozen food. Mama, was among the people who introduced the business of frozen food (fresh fish) in Ekinrin-Adde. She was widely known in the business of selling frozen fish, that she was nicknamed Iya Idowu "eleja".

Mama was a devoted Christian. She was a member of egbe ‘ife’ at the Christ Apostolic Church, No 2, Oke-Temidayo, Ekinrin-Adde. Mama never stopped attending Sunday services and other programs in the church till she was called to glory.

Mama, like an eagle, was a strong woman and a goal-getter who fought tirelessly to protect her children from the dangers of time. Mama was a virtuous woman who taught everyone around her, morals. “Iya Idowu” as she was fondly called, was a great teacher, a support system to her children and family, and a woman every child would always pray to have as a mother.

She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
