Newly appointed United Kingdom(UK) Nigerian cabinet member, Kemi Badenoch has promised to create more jobs, growth and opportunities across UK.

UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss, Tuesday, appointed British-Nigerian, Kemi Badenoch, a Member of Parliament, as the new Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade.

She expressed her excitement over her new job, in her official Twitter handle. “Delighted to start my new job at @tradegovuk! Looking forward to unleashing Global Britain's full potential so we can create more jobs, more growth and more opportunity across the UK.”

Before her latest appointment, she had served, as Minister of State for Local Government, Faith and Communities and Minister for Equalities from 2021 till 2022.

Kemi's published profile in Wikipedia and other sources, reveals a formidable pedigree, that contributed significantly, towards her spectacular performance, as a British politician. She has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Saffron Walden since 2017.”

“Badenoch, who has been outspoken on issues such as gender-neutral toilets which she opposes, stood on an "anti-woke" platform and argued for the state to be slimmed down.”

“The former software engineer worked in banking and later as a director of the Spectator magazine, before being elected to the London Assembly.”

She became MP for Saffron Walden in Essex in 2017, and lists her interests, as engineering and technology, social mobility and integration.

“Born in Wimbledon, London, to Nigerian parents, Badenoch, born on January 2, 1980, spent parts of her childhood in Lagos and the United States(US), before returning to the Uk at 16.”

“After graduating from the University of Sussex, she was a software engineer at Logica, before studying law at Birkbeck, University of London. She later pursued a career in banking, working for the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Coutts.”

“In 2012, Badenoch unsuccessfully contested a seat on the London Assembly, but was appointed to the body, after Victoria Borwick resigned in 2015.”

“A supporter of Brexit in the 2016 referendum, Badenoch was elected to the House of Commons in 2017. After Boris Johnson became Prime Minister in July 2019, Badenoch was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families.”

“In the February 2020 reshuffle, she was appointed Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities. In September 2021, she was promoted to Minister of State for Equalities and appointed Minister of State for Local Government, Faith and Communities. In July 2022, Badenoch resigned from the government and stood to replace Johnson in the 2022 Conservative Party leadership election, but was eliminated from the contest in the fourth round of voting.”

“Considered to be on the political right of the Conservative Party, Badenoch has criticised "critical race theory" and has been characterized as a social conservative and 'anti-woke' politician. As Minister of State for Equalities, Badenoch opposed plans by the Financial Conduct Authority to allow trans employees to self-identify in the workplace, and opposes gender neutral bathrooms in public buildings.”
She was born on January 2, 1980 in Wimbledon, London. She is the daughter of Femi Adegboke and Feyi Adegoke, who are of Nigerian origin. Her father was a GP and her mother is a professor of physiology. Badenoch's childhood included living in Lagos, Nigeria and in the United States, where her mother lectured.”
She has a brother named Fola and a sister called Lola. She returned to the UK at the age of 16 to live with a friend of her mother's owing to the deteriorating political and economic situation in Nigeria which had affected her family. Although a British citizen and born in the UK, Badenoch stated that she was “to all intents and purposes a first-generation immigrant” during her parliamentary maiden speech.
