An officer can ask you for identification at any time or place, shouting at an officer is seen as being combative and they can charge you for disorderly conduct, remember no law stops an officer from arresting you, what happens after the arrest is another thing entirely, the law will always side with protocols unless you can argue your case in front of a judge.

Alabama law permits officers to ask for identification in public spaces, one can argue that the outside of one's home is public, again this is after the fact, it does not stop you from being arrested.
