obyno82: How come after Awolowo was jailed Balewa Pushed by Azikiwe held a referendum for the creation of the Midwest Region out of the Western Region But they forgot to give the Minorities in their own Regions the same ? Question since it was the Eastern Region Minorities that first Started fighting for their own Region how come the Western Region Minorities got their own MIdwest Region referendum first with none In sight for the others? |

Christistruth00: I have always known you as a mischievous person, guy your plan to incite hate has failed. Zik never pushed for a referendum, it was a decision by the people of the region. The Willink's commision never saw the claims of marginalization as substantial and they even saw it as mischievous and borne out of envy and inferiority complex which i agree because if you ask those who claim they were marginalized that can they provide a documented case of marginalization, none of them can give you any cogent reply at all. Oga i repeat you are sounding like a broken record, be careful how you spread hate, as you can be picked up by DSS |

Christistruth00: To show that you are mischievous person, we talked about military especially Gowon that you claimed he decentralized powers to states in a referendum and i asked you was there anytime the military did any referendum to create states? and you are deviating to midwest creation that Zik had no hand in the creation. |

baralatie: If Ironsi abolished the Regions, how come Ojukwu was Military Governor of the Eastern Region the day Ironsi was killed? |

Harryj12: Oga read the post and see my comments i know the in and out of Decree 34 , and if you can use your deductive reasoning you would see that Ironsi in hindsight didn't destroy regions, the man who destroyed regions was in fact Gowon |
Re: Major J T Aguiyi Ironsi During An Army Training Exercise At Warminster England by obyno82: 10:32am On Sep 14, 2022 |
Harryj12: Unitary and Federal are just nomenclature. The Unitary system seeks to centralize the working units of the country especially the civil service to a central system, while the Federal system allows for the federating units to work for the actualization of the central objectives of the country. Both of them are similar it is just nomenclature. What we have is not federalism in any way or unitarian system as proposed by Ironsi what we have is a Quasi federal and Unitary system designed from Gowon's era down to what we have today. |

gidgiddy:As at the time of Ironsi By the decree 34 of 1966.all regions became former regions and we're now called group of provinces with powers dictated from the supreme military council! Ojukwu was not a premier of the eastern region He was the governor of the eastern group of provinces and member of the executive council of the supreme military council of which ironsi is the head! Do you understand it now |

baralatie: Oh now I see where your confusion comes from. The military Regime of Ironsi chose to call the Regions "groups of provinces", but thats what the Regions were anyway. Every Region was nothing but a group of provinces. Its like saying that a state is group of LGA's, thats what a state is. Ironsi may have changed the name of each Region slightly, but it did not take away from the fact that the 4 Regions still existed under Ironsi, each with its own military Governor and each had resource control and financially independent of the government of Ironsi at the centre. That someone chose to call something by a different name does not mean that thing is still not there Compare that with Gowon who came in after Ironsi, promulgated Decree 14 below which abolished all 4 Regions, created 12 states and removed resource control so that all the new 12 states would be financially dependant on the Government at the centre. Without a doubt, it was Gowon who abolished the 4 Regions we had and destroyed Regionalism Those who followed Gowon kept subdividing those 12 states until we got the 36 states But Ironsi subdivided nothing, his own was slight name change

gidgiddy:The answer to your is stated clearly in decree 34 of 1966 which reads From that date of promulgation all federations have been resolved and are no longer existing All premiers and powers dissolved All parliaments dissolved All income revenues of the former regions now goes to the federal account All civil service under the former regions now transfer to federal civil service All resources security outfit now under federal military government All powers now in the hands of the executive military council There is no more regions No more president or head of state No more prime.ministed no regional government no election to elect a premier for any fictitious imagination of a region There is no more regional phrase jargons It is now federal government of Nigeria |
