Toyota Won't Start After Removing Battery by EazyMoh(m): 9:56pm On Sep 12, 2022
Good day car gurus.

I just got this Toks '08 Rav4.
Took it for thorough cleaning at a car wash, and they disconnected the battery and washed the engine bay.

After drying car wouldn't start.
I noticed the key fob does not unlock/lock the car, had to insert it into the door.

After inserting the key it cranks but fail to start.
The car came with one after market Responder "6711T DEI SST RESPONDER LC3 ANTENNA RECEIVER WITH CABLE for Viper, Python"
And a on/off switch cable close to the OBD.
Our local Kazeems can't seem to even understand what is wrong.
I just got the car 4days ago and have been driving it since.
Anybody with any idea how to solve this?

Are you sure it is the battery?
Or water has affected something within the engine?

Don't use anyhow kazeem o. Contact the pro to avoid more touching stories.

Thanks bro. No much water was used in the engine bay.
From my research it looks like it's from the remote, because it doesn't even lock/unlock the doors remotely anymore.

I see this a lot. People washing engine bay like it is a plate. With high pressure hose at that. Very very wrong practice. Even back when I dey sell toks cars, I 'detail' the engine bay myself, by hand, meticulously area by area, till it is done. You clean the area, with damp clothes, brushes etc, not spray the area with a high pressure hose. Someone bought a car from me just like this and was calling a few weeks later to tell stories just like yours. I was livid, me wey don dey fear say wetin fit happen to a pristine car, only to find out he went to submerge the engine bay in water. My response to him is the same I'm about to tell you, 'Get a competent mechanic to troubleshoot that car'. Hopefully whatever has been damaged won't cost you too much.

Ok car is just scanned and shows only immobiliser code.
The problem I believe is not caused by the washing of engine bay but rather disconnecting the battery.
I found weird wires in the engine bay. Its actually an American socket main connected somewhere into the engine.

that wire has nothing to do with it. It is usu in most toks cars somewhere ard the battery/radiator side, for both Canadian and American. Tried googling what it was used for back in the day, but didn't really get the answer I was looking for. Na to look for specialist be that, or ask the seller. Maybe he knows the procedure to reset it. Chances are he would have disconnected the battery at some point in the past, and may know how to navigate this. Finally, stop washing engine bay. You can clean, but don't wash. I hope you get this sorted ASAP.

The wire is used to de ice the coolant in the engine block before starting the engine.

With your current immobiliser code, car will not start till you sort out the reason it was triggered.

My engine knocked abt 2 months ago. What caused the knocking . Water. Yes I say cold high pressure car wash water. After washing the car,it refused to start till abt 5mins ,it started and idling was very rough. Drove the car like that for like 5days,shaking shaking. Main culprit damaged and burnt spark plugs, burnt ac relay wires, caused slow gear selection, rough idle and gbam after 4 days the engine knocked. If you want to wash car engine, like crv is rugged and okay, crv both fromn98 to 2011 cold water dey okay, but you see toyota. Hahahaha. No just try am with cold high pressure . Soon diff malfunctions go enter inside. Always go for steam hot water wash. Lowest pressure but cleans like gold.

Thanks everyone for your help.
Car finally restarted after 72hours.
We had to dismantle the dashboard, cleaned the wiring and retrieved the immobiliser module.
Cleared the code and reprogrammed the car. It finally started with no issues except AC coolant which was lost in the process.

More than 30k spent in expenses.

A very big lesson learnt.
Never wash engine bay. undecided
Thanks everyone once again.
