LEKKI Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), the much celebrated multi-billion dollars bilateral business venture between Lagos State and the Chinese Investors has kicked off, with President Olusegun Obasanjo describing Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State as "a brilliant governor with brilliant ideas".

The LFTZ cited in Ibeju-Lekki local government area of the state, according to its managers, would occupy 1,000 hectares of land employing over 300,000 as workers on completion.

In 2006, under the administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Lagos state government conceived an idea to develop some part of the Lekki Peninsula into a blue-green, eco-friendly environment. The proposed area covered an area of 60,000 hectares stretching from Victoria Island in the west to Refuge Island and some parts of Lekki town in the east. The blue-green concept was primarily to create a comprehensive new town with important public facilities and infrastructures in the North and South peninsulas.

This concept was solidified by the development of the comprehensive master plan for Lekki sub-region which provided the guideline for regional planning of the entire Lekki peninsula.

Consequently, the master plan for Lekki Free Zone was developed using the Lekki sub-region master plan as a basis for planning.

In line with the lekki sub region master plan, the entire Lekki Free Zone covers an area of 16,500 hectares and it is divided into two peninsulas by the Lekki Lagoon namely parcel A (southern peninsular) and parcel B (Northern peninsular).
The Free Zone is further divided into four (4) quadrants name:

Large chunk of the revenue that will be generated from this project will go into Tinubu personal pocket No doubt

Tinubu is not a true son of the soil of Lagos but has succeded in putting Lagos inside his pocket ..
Just look at how much Tinubu makes from Lekki Toll gate and how much is going into his personal pocket

Late Gani fawehinmi was right about Tinubu being a criminal

Good one for lekki residents. They really need not go to the sea port to clear their goods...with everywhere flooded in lekki, the ship will be driving to deliver goods from door to door. Congratulations once again.

Show this to Obi Pandora, the man that failed to facilitate seaport to his people in his 8 years of governance who now try to runaround to incite ethnic hatred for the SS people against Tibubu who was able to create a Lekki free trade zone housing a deep seaport?

This Lekki Free trade zone was established/facilitated by Tinubu and now Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and etc already started making effort to start using the port as at today.

When Obi knows he can’t campaign with his achievement, he resorted to character assassination of a candidate with far superior achievement glaring for all to see.

Thanks to Jonathan for signing up to this with federal funding.

FEC approves $1.3b for construction of Lekki deep sea port
December 4, 2013

The Federal government Wednesday took the initiative to decongest existing ports in the country as it approved a $1.35billion contract for the construction of a new Deep Sea Port in Lekki- Lagos State.

Minister of transport Senator Idris Umar who briefed state house correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting said the project which is expected to be completed within the next four years is to constructed under a public private partnership PP arrangement on a concession basis for a period of 45 years after which it will revert to the federal government.

The Minister explained that the federal government has 20 percent equity in the project with Lagos state having 18.5percent equity while the private investors have 61.85 percent stake in the project.

He said “Council approved the issuance of a Guarantee to cover financial obligation of the NPA to pay compensation in the event of expropriation, war, civil disturbance, breach of contract and other event of default as per the concession agreement for the development of the port, as $800million out of the project cost is to be funded through debt financing while the balance of $554.5million is to be contributed by equity.
